My opinions on the improbability of the score getting a CD release stand. Fox is simply too embarrassed by it. I should have been clearer. I didn't mean anything about Fox releasing the score. I know there's no chance of that. They actively killed the film. After it bombed in the UK, they released it in the US with no publicity (no trailers, posters, TV spots, nothing) and filled the web with viral videos showing the death scenes of every character - something I have NEVER seen a sane studio do. They clearly wanted it to bomb for some unknown reason. However La La Land has expressed a willingness to release the score in the past. I'm hoping that they'll finally be able to do so, as I know it has a faithful following.

My opinions on the improbability of the score getting a CD release stand. Fox is simply too embarrassed by it. There are countless other scores from truely 'embarrassing' films that get released. Usually cds and other products are negotiated and put into at least pre-production before the film is released. The only thing preventing a cd release is the legal rights dispute by Underworld. At least that was the story two years ago.[/endquote Underworld's material made it onto the Digital Download so who knows, maybe a 2 Disc set with the Murphy cues on one disc and the soundtrack album on the other could make this all well. Glad I have my gifts from John Murphy : )

Most of those 16 movies that Cillian Murphy was in have been either supporting roles (his two films with Nolan), got very small releases or went straight-to-DVD. The guy was being pushed as a big star but this film (combined with his prima donna behavior on leaving Once, which was a bigger hit for Fox and an Oscar winner) killed that. Danny Boyle's career survived because of Slumdog Millionaire while hardly anyone remembers Mark Strong being in the film. As for the music, lots of music from little-seen films get used in sporting events (look at Gettysburg, the film didn't even make its budget back but NBC used the music for years). It's simply cheap to use. My opinions on the improbability of the score getting a CD release stand. Fox is simply too embarrassed by it. The score to Gettysburg was released so that hardly supports your argument.

Its not out because Underworld is a pain in the ass. Before you state such utter bullshit know your facts MV Shame to hear that's still what's holding it up, but glad to have a definitive answer. This might be something you can't talk about, but is there a reason Underworld allowed the iTunes release but won't allow a CD?

Just wanted to bump this one again - still hoping for this release! Still hoping that sometime, someone can work their magic on this one and get a proper release done. Ditto here. I just watched the film "Brooklyn" two days ago on Mother's Day—a fine film in its own right, but one that just further shows how they'll nominate absolutely anything for Best Picture these days. The music that played over the final scene was instantly familiar to me. I placed it straight away: John Murphy's Sunshine. Temp-tracking for sure. Anyway, that made me remember Sunshine all over again and hope as with you guys that LLL can one day make it happen. Last word on the matter was that the band who collaborated on the score, Underworld, have been proving the fly in the ointment. Similarly, I still hold out hope for that other space horror masterpiece mashup between an orchestral composer and an electronic band (Kamen/Orbital): Event Horizon.
