listening now to this finally and it sounds just stunning. I wasn't a big fan of this being released as I didn't think there was that more music but this actually is a great expanded album. a little odd sound on track 10 at 39 seconds or so but its still great none the less and i can look past that. a wonderful treasure to have and even better that my daughter has left so I have some time to actually listen to this alone. well done varese this was not a title I was really thinking needed expanded but you proved me wrong.

Pete 'n' Tillie at last ! Its main theme is a killer ! too bad the Bergmans song didn't make this new edition. A welcome release anyway ! I'm surprised, too, because Universal would certainly control the recording Carol Burnett did, and which I still have on a 45. Carol Burnett's recording is controlled by WEA and was done for her album later on. The promo recording was done for MCA and is therefore controlled by UME. Williams had nothing to do with any of those and the song is not sung in the film. It was wonderful to just get NBC Universal to agree to this, let alone attempt to bring in two major record labels for material not recorded for the film which the Maestro would not have wanted to include anyway, and which can be found elsewhere. Once again people need to realize that NBC Universal and Universal Music Group (which has the MCA catalog) are two completely different companies with no corporate connection. NONE. That ended 13 years ago. Mike M. Good info, thanks!

Apart from PETE´n´TILLIE - is the additional material for STANLEY & IRIS interesting and the sound quality much better than on the original album?

Apart from PETE´n´TILLIE - is the additional material for STANLEY & IRIS interesting and the sound quality much better than on the original album? Sound seems about the same to me, but I don't know that there was ever an issue with sound on this one. The new material isn't a revelation – it's variations on the same. If you like the score, you'll probably like the new material. If not, you'll probably be unmoved. It's never been a favorite score of mine (much as I often like Williams in this lower key mode), but I did enjoy my first listen yesterday. The score grew on me by the time it reached its emotional climax in "Letters." On first listen, though, I couldn't hear any significant differences between the "film version" tracks and their album counterparts. Am I missing something? "Pete 'n' Tillie" is a monothematic score, but it's a very nice theme, and the variations certainly hold up over its brief running time. Thank you! I actually prefer THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST anyway. So, maybe I should save my money for other things and stop my completism rage.

Great scores! Touching introduction by Robert T. in the liner notes, great cover art (too bad no alternative cover was made for Pete 'N' Tillie!) - love both the expanded Stanley & Iris and the Pete 'N' Tillie tracks. Excellent job, Varèse!

I didn't particularly like the covers in the other thread, so I made one myself:

FSM didn't always do it -- hence I had to wait for the great Brad Willis to do a Girl Named Sooner cover (from the tie-in novel) ...plus for Williams there was The Paper Chase. Yavar
