I hate to ask, but is there a chance for a re-issue of "Until September"? It's a lovely score and Barry re-used the main theme in "A View To A Kill"...

Umm...you're mistaken. Barry NEVER reused that theme in A VIEW TO A KILL.

I suggest the use of a Q-tip before listening next time.

James

It's used as the introduction to the Paris scene.

Such a lazy composer, isn't he?

I'm sure you're not alone here! Given that StarCrash was just re-issued, I would guess we'll see Until September at some point. It might be a good time to sell your old Silva copies wink.

Alex

Wasn't there an edit to the opening of one of the tracks? I seem to recall that the msters were damaged and a track had to be faded in. If Until Septemeber was reissued, perhaps a the vinyl could be used to restore that missing track opening?

Anyway, very excited about getting my hands on Starcrash. "Launch Adrift" is easily in my top 3 favorite Barry tracks ever!

You might be referring to StarCrash - there's a track that was damaged (available on the LP), so the producers put an alternate, very similar but missing a few bars.

This wasn't a complaint. I think the theme works quite fine in the movie -- and a nice reprise for a rather obscure work (I don't think that "Until September" is as popular as the Bond series).

(Almost) Everything that Barry did was great!

FYI,

To be honest Mr. Barry Cheated a bit on seqenece this in the first place.

The track is made of three parts

1.) The First section is pretty much ESCAPE INTO HYPERSPACE reused

2.) The Mid-section (Which was damaged) is really just a good amount of the Main Title reused, what was missing was a few vamped bars to fit the picture

3.) The Third section it appears to be written for the end of the scene...

Given the film, I don't blame him for not spending that much time on it....

I have the Silva CD which is paired with Until September. Although this new one is nice cover art, I don't think I'll buy this, unless soeone can say what the suite comprises of.

The suite is most probably a grouping of standout cues from the album (like the Frances album released by Label X). For me the big highlight is the sound quality! The music sounds incredible on the sound clips alone (the sound was quite muffled in the original release).

Alex

The infamous b**t of The Black Hole / Howard the Duck has a bonus suite of Starcrash which seems to be running the same time as the last track on the BSX CD. A coincidence ?

Will these retailers carry the BSX release for "PRINCE OF DARKNESS" as well soon? I do not see it anywhere but only BSX.

Cool, since I haven't ordered that yet.
I will do it along with STARCRASH and Varese's on Monday.
I hope they will be still there on Monday...

WOW, went to IMDB and they give this wonderful achievement in Cinema History a 3.1 out of 10. IT makes me wonder when John Barry sat and watch this mess, didn't something click in his brain and say, WHY AM I DOING THIS???

You know it is a BAD flic if it has MARJOE GORTNER!!! The greatest actor ever!!! I don't understand why GORTNER didn't recieve many Oscar Nomination, can anyone on FSM shed any light on this huge error by the Academy!!!

A version of the story goes that the filmmakers told Barry the special effects and overall look of the film would improve. Whatever happened, it definitely goes down as one of the worst film choices ever made by a high-profile composer. This and 90% of Goldsmith's projects.

Well, in all fairness, let's change that percentage to, oh, maybe 80%. big grin

I'm looking forward to hearing this- I listened to Barry's MOVIOLA recording today for the first time in a long time and really enjoyed it. Every bit.

Thanks! Last time I had looked it wasn't there. Maybe I didn't search properly or they just received their batch to sell and finally posted this title.

BTW, it is limited to 1500 not 1000.

PS

Well yes... it's due out in December. Long wait man!

Thanks again!!

I still can't believe I'm going to get this in the mail. I had chalked this one up as an "impossibility" - between the film's z-movie grade level and and the fact that its a largely forgotten Barry score...

...Can't wait to get this in the CD player.
