Someone will release a *complete* one disc edition of this generic muzak, and that will be the last soundtrack release. Ever. Well, it won't be the "complete" "soundtrack" unless it contains the song, so we're told... ;-)

It's been 50+ years since the 60's and 70's. This is slowly getting to be a long time in the past. 50 years ago seemed like prehistoric times when I first started to listen to scores.

I guess you missed the announcement, LLL & UNIVERSAL: Film Music Heritage Collection. Or the release of Colossus: The Forbin Project, or the release of Gwangi, just to name a few. And to name a few others, "Love Story," "Amarcord," "Il Casanova," "La Dolce Vita," "The Cowboys," "Love Story," a pair of very early Basil Poledouris scores, and a Francis Lai box containing three scores for Universal. But besides those… and some others… there have been none!

Dude! Of course they're interested in doing the majority of those. Charley Varrick apparently is only partially there, I read recently. Intrada located elements for The Rare Breed and Story of a Woman by Williams, but like Sugarland Express those projects were (for now at least) given the thumbs-down by him. Many of your titles are Universal...well it seems the trickle of releases possible from that studio only just recently increased, with LLL's news of this brand new series. So try to be a little patient. Seriously, I don't understand this thread when we recently got an expanded Cowboys and a premiere release of The Valley of Gwangi! Take a little time to enjoy those before asking for more! I'm sure the labels know about stuff like Rooster Cogburn, c'mon. Intrada in particular has done tones of Rosenthal releases. Yavar

Perhaps I am at fault also for praising your musical knowledge Yavar, but I am getting FED UP with your preaching. Stop kissing the mirror, Yavar! Though I admit have a healthy ego, I don't see how my post had anything to do with praising/admiring myself, so this reply of yours comes across as a non-sequitur to me. And most other folks here (including people who work at the labels who bring you all of this stuff) are getting FED UP with all the constant whining about their not being enough older releases. You have already ticked off Bruce at Kritzerland quite thoroughly (even though he's released a greater percentage of Golden Age scores than anyone else since Lukas ended the FSM label) and it looks like you (and others) are well on your way to getting on MV's nerves as well. I LOVE the Golden and Silver Age, and I want you to stop all the negativity and demands for more. I have a right to express that. In fact my fear is that you and others will alienate the labels heads so much with these constant complaints (and seeming ingratitude for/obliviousness to all the great older stuff we have gotten recently), that they will actually stop pursuing Golden Age projects altogether. Several of them have already made comments to this effect...that the era is not worth pursuing when the sales potential is smaller, restoration costs are greater, and appreciation spotty: you happily gobble up some of what they release, and then you're just back to lamenting what they haven't. Have you made many posts discussing the music for Gwangi or The Cowboys? Way of the Gaucho? How about those Steiner or Waxman box sets? Bumping threads on those releases with actual score discussion (talk about why you love them!) might actually have an effect in encouraging others to buy them, upping sales and making the prospect of future Golden Age releases not so financially bleak for the labels. That would be a far more productive use of your time than constantly lamenting what you judge to be apparent disinterest on the part of the labels. So just take a moment to stop and realize that you may in fact be actively working against the ends you hope to achieve. Yavar (who prefers the term "professor" or "lecturer" rather than "preacher")

Now there's a man who doesn't get upset in seeing a list. I think you misunderstood what prompted my reply to you. I have no problem at all with anyone posting suggestions or want lists. I do them myself! I don't think the labels mind those (except maybe when they're in their actual announcement threads, where it comes across as "what's next?" rather than appreciation for what they just took a lot of effort to produce). No, what caused me to write what I did was your final dramatic sentence in all caps: MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL ... ARE THE LABELS INTERESTED IN DOING THEM ? This, right after LLL announced a new Universal series, announcing many 70s score premieres in the process: http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=129366&forumID=1&archive=0 70s premieres by Colombier Schifrin, Mancini, Cacavas, and Melle already mentioned...plus an expansion of a beloved Morricone western... I am very happy enjoying recent purchases like THE COWBOYS, ROCKET GIBRALTAR, and THE SUN ALSO RISES. I still enjoy posting titles that I would like to see released in the future. Of course things take time, but enjoying what I have to listen to and what I would like to see released are two different matters. Like I said, I had no problem with your posting a list of titles you'd like to see released. It was your all-caps final sentence that prompted my reply...if I unfairly lumped you in with what MV called "The-Sky-Is-Falling Chicken Little brigade" I apologize, but it seemed like it was expressed in a similar tone of worry/complaint which seemed inappropriate given all the recent 60s/70s releases and news. Thanks for reminding me about the recent Golden/Silver Age releases from Quartet as well...The Sun Also Rises is a must-buy to this Friedhofer fan of course, despite it not being expanded. Yavar

Hopefully with the new Universal program we will see some of them along with more from Paramount etc.. Now there's a man who doesn't get upset in seeing a list. PFK is The Man! P.S.
