Can someone provide the website again for where I can place an order?

It's on Screen Archives.

Or direct from Tadlow: http://www.tadlowmusic.com/2017/03/thriller-jerry-goldsmith/

Who is this Jerry Goldsmith person?

He was the original spokesman for Outback Steakhouse. He also dabbled in music composition.

mark ford's post already says everything I can say about this release. Except this: I've always especially admired how many different modes, idioms, approaches Goldsmith had at his disposal. I've always felt he had maybe the biggest "toolbox" to draw from, leading to so many different kinds of scores over the decades, while still remaining wholly himself.*

I too especially love the chamber-scale orchestrations. The musicians play these scores quite idiomatically - a couple of times I've actually thought "wow this sounds really good for such an old recording" until I realize it ain't!

*(Except "Where the Bad Guys are Gals," which sounds like Jerry doing Mancini/Hefti - until he starts working with it orchestrally, and then it's all him.)

O.K., you can hate me if you guys want, but this was my opinion.

I don't hate you. I pity you.

I admire him. There are too many 'gushing' reviews; too few honest opinions. Those wondering whether to buy need trustworthy reviews, even if that means critical--not critical in the 'this is bloody horrible' sense, but in the 'I just couldn't get into it and here's why' sense. Or maybe just 'the playing was lackluster', or 'the music was repetitious'. All work and no play may make Jack a dull boy, but all praise and no criticism can make threads and forums even more dull. We need a mix, which will also provide those who loved the release a better opportunity to express their enthusiasm.

I tend to be more prasing than critical around these parts. I find that when I have something negaitive to write, I myself get accused of being wrong for my opinion. I try to back up my opinions with valid observations.

Gotta say, I am enjoying this new CD of Thriller.

Not following you here, pp312. Is my love for this CD dishonest to you?

"And on the day of release we had sold over 1000 copies..... so volume 2 already in the works .....with more of the same"

My local dealer hasn't sent me my copy yet, so I haven't heard it, but even so, James, your announcement of the next volume is the best news I've heard all year. I thank you from the bottom of my adolescent, 1961 heart.

I stopped buying into City of Crap....I mean Prague. The rehash hash of miss matched notes..I stopped long time ago, over 10 years ago buying from these saps. I do not support poorly performed Orchestras. If you like an Orchestra that truly cannot keep up, City of Prague is your best bet. And no matter the Conductor (must be 100% Deaf) The City of Grinding to a Halt cannot keep up with the Williams, Barry, or Goldsmith's Styles.

1. Thin Sounding
2. Poorly performed
3. Slow Tempos
4. Wrong notes played
5. Poor Recording Studio
6. Rehash the Hash
7. Wacky Wack Rendition

I cannot believe in today's world...FSM guys are still buying the poorly performed City of Prague. Amazing.

You comments and name-calling are quite honestly a total insult to me and my musicians sir! Yes when I started recording with them in 1989 they had a lot to learn ...but fortunately you are living in the past , and the countless awards the orchestra and myself have received in the past 15 years attest to this. We are also the orchestra of choice of many fine contemporary composers. I could go on and on...but why bother as I know I will never change you mind especially as you have not heard any of our recording for years. I was tempted to say what I really think about your uninformed opinion ... but sod it I have more important things to do. But I trust sir that you respect my right to reply and you just can't expect to make such statement without rebuttal ?

townerbarry, you should buy what you want to buy, and like what you like, but your statement here is wildly outdated and uninformed. As for your attempts at wit… City of Grinding to a Halt? Seriously?

You know for a fact yourself...that they destroyed Williams and Barry and Goldsmith's music over and over and over again. I am not the first, and will not be the last. They..city of make your ears bleed...can't hang with even The Boston Pops. lol.

It's times like this where I most definitely don't envy any label spokesperson/boss. You more or less have to give a dignified answer instead of calling townerbarry's contribution what it is: utter & completely ignorant bullcrap.

And I have never been accused being dignified...the only dignified thing I can think of is by not replying the raving of someone in the minority who has not listened to a Prague recording this Century. As I said sadly living in the past.

Just as well I did not post my first reaction...the adjectives were extremely Anglo Saxon!!!!

Good GOD James...please don't tease like that unless you are serious. I almost choked on my lunch. A certain film Preston has been talking with people about for a rather a long time could really only mean one thing...that certain film which Preston wrote a certain excellent book about. If this is somehow happening it will make my decade.

Yavar
