Scrooge was always an odd duck. Always trying to fight off people robbing his money, yet it kept it in a big tower with a giant money symbol on it. It might as well have been a neon sign with a plaque underneat: LOT OF MONEY INSIDE

I hope the new series has good music, too. Ron Jones is still alive and scoring. I suspect they'll use some mediocre modern television composer though.

Even as a kid seeing this I always wondered how it didn't kill him instantly. I was a weird kid.

You're not the only one!

(Also a missed opportunity to have Jones himself do a DuckTales parody but oh well)

You're all looking for logic in a cartoon about a billionaire duck?

The scoring for that scene was flawless - the sound of the impact being the most important. And thanks for sharing that one, it's just so satisfying to watch. big grin

It's not about money. Scrooge McDuck has more money than he can ever spend. That money can buy a fleet of solid gold Rolls Royces, but it cannot fill the emptiness he feels in his heart. He is surrounded by family, and yet he's produced no little ducks of his own. Scrooge's self-worth requires constant re-affirmation, and his conspicuous consumption of luxury items and towering shrines to his own accumulated wealth are a display of status to disguise for all the world the hollowness that he feels as he lies awake in his diamond-studded gold bed every night.

Do any of these themes show up in the samples? I don't hear much. Also it doesn't sound very much like a large orchestra to me as they describe it.

I believe ALL of the themes I mentioned show up in the samples. A quick rundown, not necessarily comprehensive. (I apologize if the timings are approximate -- I was typing on the fly.)

I also hear one of my favorite themes in two of the samples. I don't know what it would be called - the "despair" theme? In the film, it's heard when the money in Scrooge's vault is replaced by the volcanic floor of Merlock's home, which is represented in the sample for "Merlock Takes Control" at 1:20. And it also shows up in an earlier sample, "Webby Discovers The Lantern", at 1:12.

Thanks for laying out the themes in the samples. Seems I'm just not a Newman fan because I've gone through the samples three times and it doesn't really grab me. But I'm glad for everyone else who has been waiting for this.

Sounds like if Newman got to score a Brave Little Toaster sequel.
That is in no way a bad thing.

One for the shopping list! Only one teeny criticism - too bad the movie's version of Mark Mueller's series theme isn't here.

The timing of the End Credits on the Intrada page is 4:18. I've just timed it on the actual film (including the actual Duck Tales theme, which tops and tails Newman's cue) and it's the same. I have no doubt the whole thing will be on the CD, as heard at the end of the film.

Intrada are not going to release a Duck Tales CD without the Duck Tales theme on it. smile

Just to nip this one in the bud, David Newman's original end credits suite is longer than what is heard in the film. It was shortened in the film to accommodate the interpolation of Mueller's series theme. What you get on the Intrada CD is the full-length suite as Newman intended.

Great deal and great scores! Highly recommended. I wish that Intrada would release the rest of these Tinker Bell scores. At least the Secret of the Wings score...

That is a great deal. Anyone who doesn't have McNeely's fantastic Tinker Bell scores needs to get them now. The second is my favorite, but Secret of the Wings (the fourth) might just barely tie it, so I'm with you in longing for a complete release of that one. I love wintry sounding stuff. smile

That's wonderful news, thanks for sharing, Wedge! smile

And what about the "Ducktales-Theme" (movie version)?
Is this also part of this release, or not?

Sounds like it's not. But I've always been dubious of the "movie version" being any different than the standard TV version; to my ears, it sounds like the same recording with a little reverb. If that's the case, it's already available on the "Disney Afternoon" CD.

Excellent, very well put.

It is amazing as one gets older things we viewed as youngsters always have a different perspective as we get older, I think they call it experience!
