Looks like we're getting quite a large company. Just a quick heads up: For the last few years, there's always been a film music symposium in connected to the concert. I'd pretty much given up hope for one this year since they haven't announced anything yet, but a friend contacted the organisers and got the reply that there will be one, probably on Oct. 2nd. Usually, this starts in the morning and last roughly until mid afternoon, with a signing session around noon. I'll keep you updated when I know more.

There's plenty of places all around the Konzerthaus. I'll see how many we're going to be before I pick any specific suggestions, and when we've decided on a place I'll make a reservation.

I'll be happy to meet you and join you as well, if possible! My wife and I will arrive in Vienna on the 2nd, but late at night.

Marian - looks like you've been before - do you really have to wear "evening dress" to the concert? As in tuxedo? Would a "normal" suit be OK? I don't really want to buy a new tux but am pretty sure I'm not going to fit in my old one. I'm twice the man I was when I was 21. (The wording about it is a bit odd though - "Evening attire is requested for the gala evening on Sundays" - there's one concert on Thursday and one on Friday, so I don't know where Sunday comes into it!)

Hi James, I guess a nice, dark regular suit + tie is fine, that's what I'll be wearing, too... I don't own a tuxedo either. They just want to make sure that people don't show up in jeans, T-shirt and sneakers As for the get-together, my partner and I will be at the concert on Friday, however I'm unsure if we can make it before the event, because we'll be driving to Vienna from Munich on the same day... should you decide to meet up after the concert, I think we'll join Cheers, Uwe

It's weird, because a friend of mine was there a couple of years ago, and he told me people had everything from jeans and t-shirts to tuxedos. Personally, I don't understand why jeans with a nice shirt and a suit jacket shouldn't do the trick. It would certainly help my luggage situation -- a suit plus shoes plus coat (this is October, after all!) take a lot of space. True, people wear almost anything to a concert these days . But since we're sitting in row 17 in the stalls (close to where the guests of honour will be sitting *g*) I feel we should dress up a little... and it's fun Cheers, Uwe

Thanks Uwe. In that case I'll wear a regular suit. I'm sure we'll be going for some drinks after the concert - if I have any money left, that is. This trip has turned out to be rather more expensive than I expected, now I've finally booked my flights and hotel.

They introduced the dress code when they started rolling out a red carpet for the guests of honour before the concert, but unless you want to end up on Austrian society TV, you'll probably avoid running around there anyway. I've been wearing a shirt and regular suit the last few times (no tie), and will stick to that. The Sunday thing is probably just poor copy & paste from last year's announcement.

I just noticed that the German-language description of the concert is rather different to the English one, saying it's a science fiction concert (mentioning Star Trek, Gattaca and AI) followed by a "Best of Horner" medley. The English one only mentions Horner.

OK, you and your wife have been added. Thank you! It will be a pleasure to meet all of you. With regard of the dress code, we went to Silvestri's Concert a couple of years ago, and we didn't see any t-shirts or jeans, only black suits and ties. Maybe because we were sitting just a few rows behind Silvestri and Broughton. And on a personal note, it was a huge privilege to be able to shake Silvestri's hand then, and get his autograph. He was really very nice. However, he spent more time speaking with my wife than with me (I am the film music freak here, she barely knew who he is!), but this is understandable because she is much more attractive than I am...
