INTRADA
Announces:

FLIGHT OF THE INTRUDER
Composed and Conducted by BASIL POLEDOURIS
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 227

In 1990, composer Basil Poledouris teamed up with long time collaborator, director John Milius (Conan, Red Dawn) to score the Paramount Pictures film Flight of the Intruder. Stylistically, the score contains military themes and action as one would expect, but surprisingly turns into more poignant, sad territory, reflecting the internal conflicts of the on-screen characters. Although it has a typical Poledouris theme, a rousing call-to-arms motif, the overall feeling is muted, conflicted, and, like the film, utterly at odds with itself. And it features one of the last major works by Poledouris to make its appearance on CD.

For this premiere release, Intrada presents the score from the 1/2" three-channel mixes stored at Paramount, presenting the score in a clean, crisp and complete light. As an added bonus, the album includes the trailer music composed by John Beal.

Adapted from a novel by Stephen Coonts, Flight of the Intruder is a saga of Navy A-6 “Intruder” pilots, flying dangerous missions across Vietnamese enemy lines from deep-lying ocean carriers. Jake Grafton (Brad Johnson), a hot-shot pilot, is gung-ho for action until his co-pilot is killed on a mission. His attitude toward war changes as a result and he begins to question himself, authority, the nature of battle. Hanging with dissolute veteran Virgil Cole (Willem Dafoe) helps foster and deepen his cynicism regarding the “correctness” of what they are doing.

I love it! I'd somehow forgotten that Intrada's releases were coming out tonight and BAM! there it was on the Basil Poledouris Symposium on Facebook. I adore Poledouris' work. Trying to save money at the moment since the holidays were so pricey so I'll have to hope this one sells well enough to hang out for a while (I think it will).

Great work Intrada! Keep the premieres coming!

Wow. Great news.

If someone in 1990 had told me that we'd get a first class soundtrack for this but we'd have to wait more than 22 years...

As a Poledouris fan I'm happy this is finally out, but also as a Poledouris fan this film and its score hits a sore spot with me. If I am not mistaken, this is the film that pulled Basil away from Dances With Wolves. As much as I LOVE Barry's score I would have killed to hear what Basil would have done with this modern day masterpiece.

C'est la vie!

I've been waiting a long time for this. It's finally here.
A large void in the Poledouris collection filled.

Thank You Intrada.

Basil would have done an awesome score for Dances With Wolves. What a shame. I love Barry's work on it as well, but I always wished that Basil would have gotten that one big high profile assignment worthy of his talents.

Any new Poledouris is interesting (even though everything he did wasn't equally interesting -- I don't care much for SPELLBINDER, for example).

FLIGHT OF THE INTRUDER I'm not familiar with. Will check out samples asap.

I checked the samples. It's not "Under siege", then again few 90 soundtrack are, but it's in the basket.

To paraphrase Ilya Salkind "Hey it´s Poledouris, the man can write".

I'll post some love. I love the scored (ordered, of course), and even enjoy the movie.

Granted, I'm a sucker for airplanes generally love Milius' work.

Would like to if I had the funds right now... cool release! Hope it'll be available for a while!

From this collaboration, that leaves Farewell to the King for a rerelease. What a great time!

I've never heard that before. I'm not familiar with the score, but hasn't it been said that 'Lonesome Dove' was Poledouris' 'Dances With Wolves'?

I read Costner wanted to hire Poledouris BECAUSE of his music to LONESOME DOVE, but he was committed to Milius' FOTI. He stayed loyal to his friend and scored the dud, while anything connected to DANCES was showered with glory.
A similar thing happened to Bruce Broughton on HOME ALONE, but I just cannot imagine that film without Williams' score.

Basil's agent Richard Kraft chronicled the DANCES WITH WOLVES situation shortly after Basil died -
