hate it now, loved it back then. the synth doubling nonsense bothered me a wee bit back then, but now it just makes it impossible to listen to the album. Zimmer is a brilliant mind, but this whole nonsense of wasting money on a real orchestra just to double with samples and make it sound like cheap samples from 1995 is irritating. can't listen to anything with brass on the album, which is almost every track on the album. Right on. I prefer the quieter sections of the score, but honestly, I probably haven't listened to this in 8 years or so.

Hasn't changed a bit for me. Listened to it just recently. As powerful and wonderful as it was 10 years ago.

Unimpressed with the film at the time, seen it since and found it laborious. And the chant for the German hordes lifted from Zulu still stands out to me like a giraffe in dark glasses trying to get into a polar bears-only golf club. Nothing against Zimmer per se, Ive liked some of his other stuff but for me the score was ordinary and unmemorable.

I don't play it very often but Now We Are Free and a couple of other themes still rock. Zimmer managed to get "ordinary people" to listen to the score, a thing most other composers could only dream of.

Wow, people still hating on Gladiator. I remember the uproar it stirred on FSM when it first came out. I absolutely love it. The Wagner and Holst influences sit well with the more Zimmeresque moments. I've always seen eye to eye with Ridley when it comes to music choices. hmm. Well, pre-Streitenfeld, anyway. Oh well...

Where would the wailing woman be if it weren't for this? Probably stuck in some obscure Mychael Danna score from the 90's. Where it meant a great deal more, having been used to less decorative effect.
