Has your opinion of this Oscar nominated score changes since you listened to it?

Nope,

it rocks. Still rocks. Even casual music fans know it love it. I could care less if it set back film music as the new action 'standard' It's a great score. Should've Oscared, but then again it wasn't a Disney film wink

No, it's still a fantastic score, and a landmark, influential one in recent film music history.

Where would the wailing woman be if it weren't for this? Probably stuck in some obscure Mychael Danna score from the 90's. smile

As much as I love Zimmer, this one never won me over. I doubt I'd listened to the CD 3 times. Never got the mania for this one.

Maybe its time to try it again and see if 10 years does make the difference

Infamous comes to mind also.

hate it now, loved it back then. the synth doubling nonsense bothered me a wee bit back then, but now it just makes it impossible to listen to the album. Zimmer is a brilliant mind, but this whole nonsense of wasting money on a real orchestra just to double with samples and make it sound like cheap samples from 1995 is irritating. can't listen to anything with brass on the album, which is almost every track on the album.

Right on. I prefer the quieter sections of the score, but honestly, I probably haven't listened to this in 8 years or so.

I disliked it then. I still dislike it today. And Thor is right that it started the Era of the Wailing Woman.

Hasn't changed a bit for me. Listened to it just recently. As powerful and wonderful as it was 10 years ago.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but since you're compiling the statistics, you can chalk me up as another who hated it then and still hates it now...

Unimpressed with the film at the time, seen it since and found it laborious. And the chant for the German hordes lifted from Zulu still stands out to me like a giraffe in dark glasses trying to get into a polar bears-only golf club.

Nothing against Zimmer per se, Ive liked some of his other stuff but for me the score was ordinary and unmemorable.

I don't play it very often but Now We Are Free and a couple of other themes still rock. Zimmer managed to get "ordinary people" to listen to the score, a thing most other composers could only dream of.

Nothing much other than that this board is - and has always been - quite anti-Zimmer.

Still like - 4 (5 if Kevin likes it too)
Dislike - 7

Count me as a 0.5, Thor.

The best bits are the ethereal parts with the Maxiumus's theme (with Lisa Gerrard). The battle music is awful in places.

Wow, people still hating on Gladiator. I remember the uproar it stirred on FSM when it first came out. I absolutely love it. The Wagner and Holst influences sit well with the more Zimmeresque moments.

I've always seen eye to eye with Ridley when it comes to music choices. hmm. Well, pre-Streitenfeld, anyway. Oh well...

Same here. I do like some bits of Streitenfeld too, though, but he hasn't won me over just yet.

Where it meant a great deal more, having been used to less decorative effect.

And Thor is right that it started the Era of the Wailing Woman.

Really? I thought that was people's reaction to the Varese Club Die Hard score.

I like some Zimmer, I don't like others. Never understood why people enjoyed this score so much or why it polarized so many. To me, its just another "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am" Zimmer affair; I've heard much better from him.
