Apparently they did REUNION IN FRANCE together.

Wow, that must have been interesting seeing them act in the same movie. I have hard time imagining them on the same planet, much less the same movie scene.

And did they kiss? That would have been weird.

I can just imagine them dining together. And the dinner goes all over the floor because she is having a Joana-maniacal Hissy. "Clean up this MESS!" she screams. Duke just says, "Pick up the steak, Bitch...." big grin

I'm offended that picture is religious.

I think you're forgetting how attractive these people were in their younger days. At the time of the release of REUNION IN FRANCE, Crawford would have been about 38 and Wayne about 36---neither were senior citizens, and both were not only beautiful, but also beautiful examples of the Hollywood fantasy machine at work providing romance for war-weary audiences.

Crawford was likely a sexual cougar, and a slightly younger and virile Wayne was prime meat, and probably up for anything, too.

Was he a carpet cleaner? Or was she a pole vaulter?

Another odd pairing:

Bob Hope and Kate Hepburn in The Iron Petticoat.

Wow. I'm adding this to my list.

Thanks, Gary!

I forget where I read this, but I once saw REUNION IN FRANCE described as "Joan Crawford's haute couture flight across war-torn Europe," or something along those lines. That about nails it. I do remember one striking visual that takes place in a dining hall, though, but don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen the movie and might be thinking about doing so.

I saw about 15 minutes of IRON PETTICOAT once and didn't bother with the rest of it. I think it's a re-do of NINOTCHKA.

Just the sort of recommendation I need. Thanks, Castile.

I read that Hepburn disliked that movie, she felt that Bob Hope played it up too much and it was silly- What did she expect from a Bob Hope movie?

I finally saw this on a library dvd.

It was a good woman's picture, a little suspenseful actually. I thought John Wayne came off a little "out of his element", as I suspected.

Beautifully lit.

And my goodness, but I've never seen John Carradine look so dapper. I'm used to seeing him play a low-life.

Dapper like Dracula in a tophat?

In honor of JC's birthday today, I'll exhume this thread to ask if I mentioned that the cue "Lana's Jive" from A LIFE OF HER OWN appears in this film?

Oh, yes. I did: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/cds/detail.cfm/cdID/349/

big grin

Carradine looked more like Dracula's uncle or butler in those horror films.

Wait til you see Wayne gobbled up by Barbara Stanwyck in BABY FACE (1933).

Well, if you can believe Crawford and Wayne in a picture, then you can probably swallow JC in a western.

But a MUSICAL western?? That's stretching it.
