a double cd edited by Fremeaux & Associés and produced by Stéphane Lerouge. (available this week in France)

first cd with music from "Catch me a spy", "Silver bears", "California Hotel" and "The Bad Boy" (plus Stephen Sondheim's "Goodbye for now" from "Reds", arranged by Bolling) and for the second cd : the complete score of "The Awakening" !!

I just listening to it and is really good.

Thank you starfe. : )

Awakening has really much more material than the old LP.

Thank you, starfe -- it's a pity for California Suite but The Awakening also looks good and I will be surely picking this release.

I always wondered about Bolling's film music. I love his flute suites and some of the others, and have heard some of his more normal jazz albums as well.

It's delicious music... fine and elegant with the typical "clearness" of french music !

A mix between Mancini and Debussy in fact... His arrangement of Sondheim's song (in "Reds") is great. The Sondheim's title (sung by Barbra Streisand) was inspired by the impressionistic Britten's melodies but Bolling reintroduced this french spirit in his arrangement.

"The Awakening" is more strange, experimental and moody...

I would like to have a complete California Suite score (the film & the score are favorites of mine). Does this release qualify ?

I found a mint copy of the California Suite score on CD that was relased by CBS with the non movie style cover art, it just has the popish cover art that usually found on Claude Bollings albums which is fine. However I have found many used stores with the LP soundtrack that features the cast on the LP cover, otherwise the CD release just has the credits of the film listed in the inside booklet.

Treasure my copy.

The CBS CD has nine tracks and runs 37:44 -

The new "American Movies" CD has only six of those tracks, running 27:36. I don't know if the CBS CD has the complete score.

I listen to it since a week and I love it a lot. I had purchased mainly for "the awakening" (and it's nice to finally hear it with a good sound. and complete !) but in fact, it's the first cd that play all the time. just beautiful !

I'm pretty sure that 37'44 is still not the complete music as I recall there's quite a lot of it in the film. However I would really like to find this CBS CD one day. As for the artwork, I actually prefer it to the poster artwork with the cast used for the LP cover.

The above cover art is the release I own on CD I know it isn't complete but it is the most complete on CD so far... so I do love it. Maybe we will get a re-issue from FSM or INTRADA with the complete score.

I was in London this week and picked this CD up for a few quid in a music exchange vinyl/CD shop.
Look forward to getting to know my first Bolling listens.
Set the Bolling rolling, so to speak wink
