Hi Fellas,

I just recieved my copy of Michael Kamen´s new score to the HBO MINISERIES BAND OF BROTHERS. Although I haven´t heard it in its full length, from what I heard so far I think I really will like this score. It is I think one of the better scores of Kamen. Btw is there any chance that Die Hard will be released any time soon ?

Best Wishes

Philipp.

Yes, BAND OF BROTHERS is a great Kamen score. The miniseries is quite good too!

Right now, the only DIE HARD release out there is the bootleg. But you never know.....

I want to see the mini-series so bad, but I don't get HBO. Guess I'll have to wait for the DVD release like FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON.

And I'm willing to give Kamen's score a try even though I haven't the liked the majority of the ones I've heard from him before.

Love the music, especially the first four tracks. I've been watching the show and already there's music that I wish was on the album! (when the train up Currahee Mountain, and in the third episode when the two soldiers are on the motorcycle) I wonder if tracks 2 and 3 will ever be in the show or if its just a combo of trailer music.

As for the show, I really enjoy watching it. The only bad thing is that there isn't as much story content as just battles. I suppose as the series progresses there will be more to it. I look forward to Sunday evenings once again at least!

Is it just me, or do you hear that too, in Track 2. Man, Kamen really recycles big time there from Robin Hood and Mr. Hollands Opus.

One of the themes for Band of Brothers is taken from Kamen's The New Moon In The Old Moon's Arms -- Symphonic Poem.
Movement IV 2,00 A.D.
It is a great theme, and I don't mind him using it in Band Of Brothers, concidering how much music he had to write.
The Developement of that theme in both albums is absolutely beautiful.
You can tell that it is heart felt, and not something that had to be done because of a deadline. When given the opertunity, he is one of the best.
But like all of his scores he relies on the perfect fourth moving upwards too much.
But that is just because it is just so heroic sounding.

I'm not really impressed with this music.

Either Kamen is perfect for this mini-series or just the opposite.

He may be perfect for it (IMHO) because it's character driven and you really dont need hard edged spoon-feeding music underneath. This score is subtle (yawn) and therefore is really (to me) unoticeable.

I can't help but think what someone else could've done with this project.

I like Band of Brothers both as an achievement and score. The last few years have been very kind to history films, which in the past have been so ignorant of TRUE history. I think Kamen's efforts are to be commended, as well as the efforts of Hanks AND Spielberg for bringing history to the VERY uninformed public. At least the young generation whose "heros" are so misplaced it is pathetic. We DO need a better representation on disc of 'From the Earth to The Moon. That album was a travesty, and hopefully, someday, it will happen. Bravo Kamen!

I second that we need a good CD of From the Earth To The Moon music. I especially like the music of Mason Daring for the series -- very moving.

Natrebo,
I did neglect to mention all the other fine efforts including Mason Daring's contribution to "From The Earth To The Moon". Given the awards and critical praise it recieved, I'm surprised a second album of score, (just score) was not released, similar to what was done with yet another excellent HBO production, 61*. I was GLAD to see 61* released on disc. Hopefully, we can get a somewhat complete release of "Moon". Time will tell. But I think Kamen's opening effort was wonderful. Band of Brothers will recieve many awards, and it's score is one that will surely be recognized.

As noted above, I'd completely forgotten that one of the themes from BAND OF BROTHERS is, pretty much, a direct lift of his ROBIN HOOD - POT theme.
It's quite shocking how close they are to each other.
This is another Kamen score I haven't played in quite a while.
Loved the series and the music perfectly accompanied it.
I'm sure there's tons of stuff missing from the 10 hr (?) mini-series, but the near 70 minute album offers a nice selection of highlights from Mr Kamen's Opus.
I noticed, in the booklet, it was dedicated to his Dad's twin, who died at Remagen, 3 days before the war ended frown
