Thor, you said you would welcome such discussions (i.e., technical). I wrote a nice long thoughtful response to your question, yet no reply. I wrote it just for you, honey smile

Yes, great post, John. I can't contribute much, alas, as I don't know anything about such matters. If there was a 'like' button on this board, you'd get one.

OMG, Howard. I can't believe that we actually had a topic about being "twits." It was fun to revisit.

Yes, great stuff. Again, something you would never have gotten away with today. There would be several "Totoros" flying high and low. Ah, I miss those days.

Leave it to Pulliam. Only he could have started a thread like that. What a maroon!

In seriousness, Thor, I think it has something to do with the fact so many of the regulars here are people in the business, who actually work(ed) on or with this stuff - manderley, Joe Caps, Ford Thaxton, Ray Faiola, The Blue Mule, Lukas Kendall, Jeff Bond, and any number of others here work on films, soundtrack releases, and/or whatnot. I'm guessing it's almost shop talk to them.

I sometimes almost wonder whether mere mortal heathen unwashed like ourselves are entirely welcome here (though I've never been given actual reason to think so - well, except maybe from Ford...); it's as though we're intruding in some secret domain. I almost feel as though I should go out and make a movie just so I be a full member of the club...

embarrassment wink

Personally, I thinks its great when these discussions happen. ILOVE the music first, but there are times when the technical aspects of what brought that music to us can be seriously fascinating (even when there are times I don't know what those technical aspects mean).

For instance, The Omega Man score(s).. That was my holy grail of grails back in the day (i'm 57) and when that came out I was stunned by the quality of such an obscure score. The film doesn't rank up there with the greats, and usually, the lesser known scores that are brought to light do not get such an amazing recording as that in the final product. So reading how they found the various parts, did what they did to restore it, and then release always fascinates me.

It also highlights the tremendous amount of work that goes into any release so that I can appreciate all important the names listed on the "Conducted by, Produced by, Mixed by etc.... all the more!!!

and... THANK YOU to all those out there that DO the work smile

I dunno. Reading that reply reminded me of Robbie Coltrane explaining the trinity to Eric Idle in Nuns On The Run.

LOL, thanks Thor. I was trying to give your question real consideration.

Mine? Try reading it from the top again. One word at a time.

Yeah, good luck to anyone trying to explain the Trinity, lol.

I've never seen that movie so I don't get the reference, and I dunno if we're talking about the same reply. I posted Spock's trademark as what Thor could have said to John instead. It would have been a nice little irony, providing closure on the thread's premise, followed by it being locked.

heh heh thank you John & LC. We have to poke fun at each other every so often just to remind ourselves this is all one big fat goof.
