Ha! I was about to say Wrong Forum but as you aren't talking about real film music only Zimmer, it's OK. Lol

Whenever this subject comes up I never lose time in saying how much I think the film is perfectly good, and that the soundtrack is excellent.

Whenever this subject comes up I never lose time in saying how much I think the film is perfectly good, and that the soundtrack is excellent. To my shame, I was happy to join in with the knockers about what a terrible film it was...never having seen it of course. I suppose that was because I didn't like the overblown Pirates films (same director & star) & agree that the other Disney box office bomb, John Carter was bad (at least I saw that one). Anyway, The Lone Ranger was on TV & I recorded it, & a few nights later I thought I'd give it 20 minutes or so, well 20 minutes was all I could watch, as something had gone wrong with the recording, but surprise surprise, I was really enjoying it, so I bought a s/h Blu-ray for £1, watched it & loved it, & have seen it a few times since (& bought a new Blu-ray, still very cheap, the price plummets fast on these unsuccessful films), & then I thought I'd buy the soundtrack, thinking that it would probably be quite cheap...

Of course it's not to it's a perfect film. Like many, I could do without the framing sequences, the super heroic talents of Silver and the zombie rabbits. But the rest is great. Despite the above elements it's still closer to a straight western adventure than the Pirates fantasies as pirate films. Just a real shame we didn't get a sequel where the title character gets to take a slightly less goofy persona in the name of humour, and become the hero of old. Oh, and with a few more references of the William Tell Overture to punctuate and spice up the proceedings, thank you very much...

Good review Thor. I suppose many of us have a more sentimental attachment, and really wanted it to succeed enough to spawn a new franchise. My first exposure to the characters was the UK made cartoon of the 60s, then the classic TV show started running again here in the 70s. Any review has to reflect the uneaveness of it. Fortunately for me it's good points outweigh the bad. Some lovely direction and cinematography using inspiration from Leone, Ford and others. And that cracking Zimmer score. I had it on loop while decorating one day and just never tired of it. Another shame of it's failure was there was never a cat in hells chance it would be included in the concert a couple of years ago....
