I’m giving this series its own topic. I’d like to recommend that members who have Netflix watch THE DIPLOMAT.

Stephen King said the following about this series.
“Dialogue so sharp it could cut your skin, as my old buddy Peter Straub used to say,” King wrote of the series. “Bonus: No teen angst,” he added.

King is correct about the dialogue. I’ve never watched a series that had such intelligent, cerebral, and erudite dialogue. I would press pause if I had to step out for a minute because I didn’t want to miss any of the savvy repartee, and I wanted answers to the international mystery. The series is brilliant, and the bonus is that it is also very entertaining.

It is a thriller because World War III could happen due to an international incident involving Britain. It also has some comedy in various places which helps lighten the tension. The local is mainly London.

Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and Ato Essandoh are excellent actors in this series.

(I think my British Buddies would enjoy this series.smile)

I would like to inform anyone who watches this great series that when you watch the surprise ending, remember there will be a second season.

Hey Bill, I did struggle with the accents in Happy Valley. I think I missed a lot of dialogue.

I don't see much TV, but I did get hooked on this, perhaps out of respect for Keri Russell's excellent The Americans. Yes, very sharp and witty and entertaining and well acted. But really: Ambassador appointed in the middle of the night w/o Congressional approval? Hobnobs with UK foreign minister more in the first couple of days than most ambassadors see of him in their entire career? Maybe even up to romantic involvement with same? Jousts with PM too? Fist fight with hubby during cabinet meeting? And when in doubt, blow stuff up -- at the start and at the end.

I see the NY Times reviewed it as essentially a sort of political screwball comedy. Not what was advertised but still entertaining.

Glad you liked it, Bill. Can't wait for season 2.

Rozaphile, I did see some "screwball" comedy in it as well as serious issues.

Just want to say thanks, Joanie. I watched it on your recommendation. Excellent. Based on wit and character with a minimum of violence. Wonderful dialogue. Looking forward to next season.

Doggie, you can write all you want to, and if you didn't like the series, that is okay. Different strokes.

Thanks, Bill.
