Companion to TROPIC THUNDER thread on music side. Possibly more appropriate to this side of board if you will. TROPIC THUNDER was released in 2008 and this interview was done in 2020. Interesting that Downey admits to using the Brando "Earpiece" thing sometimes in roles. Here's two guys talking about TROPIC THUNDER.
I have no doubt TROPIC THUNDER could *never* get made today. Frankly, it's surprising they allowed it to get made in 2008. (That wasn't *that* long ago...)

While it is true that Blazing Saddles could not be made today, much of its brilliant cast is passed away and sorely missed.
Tropic Thunder, however, pretty much everyone is still with us so it could be made today.
Seriously though, I'm always guffawed at this perspective that a movie couldn't be made about vain actors feigning radical racial surgery, and being ostracized throughout for it, only for it to be revealed that it was an even more vain attempt at blackface for awards recognition. And still being ridiculed for their idiocy. Yes, that is something that could be made today. It is making fun of how stupid actors are. We still make things like that. And Blazing Saddles is about a black sheriff who teams with a like-minded outlaw to get a one-up on racists and morons. I'm at a loss for why this movie couldn't be made today. It is a timeless classic for a reason.
