I've looked all over You Tube for a video of a S1 station promo as introduced by Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, standing in front of projection of effects images, probably from "Breakaway". Does anyone know where I can find this? I've seen the one for the 'all new' Space: 1999.

Where I lived the show was on 7:00 Friday evenings. A welcome elixir, as was "Star Trek," to another week spent dealing with the realities of middle school.

They're sitting, but…ring any bells?

I remember this!!!

I found two on You Tube of them standing in their uniforms for the first season. One was an aired version the other was a hilarious outtake.

Very cool. Thanks to you both! Looks like the scenes, from the video Scott sent, are from "War Games."

i definitely remember Barbara Bain's 'it's gonna be a very good year' tag.

Thanks again for posting, fellas. I swear I've looked for this video several times (though, admittedly, not recently).

Can you imagine how many local stations they had to make these for? I always thought it was neat when stars mentioned one's local station (like they do here for Chicago's WGN, Channel 4, would this be Los Angeles?)

Had totally forgotten about the introduction to "Breakaway," with Landau and Bain seated on a platform that looks like something from Candid Camera.

Actually, I think it was an all day session with Landau and Bain saying pretty much the same thing and just changing the name of the station. They probably did them in the UK. The A&E DVDs had a bunch of Year Two promo spots done just like that, so I would imagine these were cranked out the same way. They would alter the delivery or sometimes change it up to keep it interesting. Barbara Bain was actually really entertaining in these. I don't know why she chose to play Dr. Russell so coldly in the first year, she was a firecracker when she wanted to be.

They really did bend over backwards promoting the series.

TOP TEN
“Black Sun” (The muf at its best with a reference to 2001 through the aging of the two leads)
“Another Time, Another Place” (the doppelgänger, the gothic leaning, dead world, time paradox)
“Guardian Of Piri” (false idol, AI as death, consumerism, dead world, mutiny, the servant as a syren, time paradox)
“Force Of Life” (the gothic leaning: the body heat vampyr, possession)
“Collision Course” (the gothic leaning, muf, mutiny, ostracism)
“Death’s Other Dominion” (science without moral, utopia: a world without death, dead world, the island of Thule, time paradox)
“End Of Eternity” (the gothic leaning: the prince of darkness, hubris, resurrection, intruder)
“War Games” (holistic society, utopia: a world without fear, the power of illusion, hubris, resurrection)
“The Troubled Spirit” (the gothic leaning: the doppelgänger)
“The Testament Of Arkadia” (muf, dead world)

The one where Catherine Schell wears a very short skirt.
Never ceased to amaze me hot she looks in that and downright frumpy they make her as a regular in Season 2. On Bain's insistence I believe? So as not to upstage her?

Apparently so. I heard that Bain's contract forbad them from showing Maya in human guise, meaning without the unflattering makeup job and caterpillar eyebrows. I remember one Saturday afternoon during Year 2, my grandmother came over and saw me watching the show. She said, "Oh, what have they done to that poor girl?" She grasped instantly that the show was making Maya look bad on purpose, while as a fan, I couldn't see it. Still don't. smile

Whenever a production serves the stars, instead of the stars serving the production, you lose something. And Bain was very bland. But still, this thread has made me want to play the series again, especially Year 1 which I think had much higher quality.

Definitely looks nice in "human" form.

Thanks to the You Tube and Fuzzymamories.com, I actually found the seconds season broadcast of "Brian the Brain" from Chicago on Halloween in 1976. The print was spotty and scratchy even then and the sound is flat and tinny, just like I remember. There were even some Mego Star Trek and Happy Days action figure commercials. It was a really nice trip back in time.

Ahhhh, the original ITC logo!

They come across as hostages reading a ransom note in the first video. They must've been exhausted doing those spots all day. Their delivery was so robotic and unnatural. The second clip is a hoot! Show's they actually had personalities!

The behind the scenes featurettes are very enlightening in how straightjacketed they were in the first year. Barbara Bain is a delight and she should have been permitted or encouraged to bring that to the role from the start.

In all of these intros, Laundau always puts a long breath between "Space" and "1999." It's hilariously robotic (you picked the perfect word).

The Space 1999 fan groups seem to be quite strong these days.

I am THRILLED to know that many of us cite Dragon's Domain as arguably unto/like Murnau's Nosferatu, Spielberg's Jaws, or Scott's ALIEN. The evening park scene from Dirty Harry too. smile

Once you excused the premise (the scientific fantasy), the show was, as with many episodes of Trek, smart and important.
