The most overlooked and under-recognized score this year, in my perspective. Should be no surprise here: it's a new fresh composer, a Horror film, and a controversial Horror reboot/sequel. I've been following Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe as a Jóhann Jóhansson collaborator for a few years now and have enjoyed his solo work and performance pieces so I was quite thrilled when he got this assignment as his first solo scoring duty. I love Philip Glass' original work. While Jóhansson may have left us too young, his influence and primordial mesh of acoustic and electronic sound lives vividly through his collaborators discovering their own identities. "The Sweet" and "Rows and Towers" send shivers down my spine. Truly haunting stuff.

Its a horror score I was looking forward to. I've REALLY tried to like it but it just left me cold. The best bits for me were the nod to Philip Glass. Not given up on it yet but its not had that 'i love it' first reaction ( like I had with the recent The Night House - Ben Lovett) that I hoped for.

Have you seen the flick yet? I didn't listen to the album before seeing the movie and the music won me over in the movie (especially due to the theatrical experience). That Lovett score is fantastic too! Cheers!

Just watched the film tonight (which I unexpectedly really liked) and you're absolutely right. The music is bang on in the film and works really well. I don’t really feel I’m going to be rushing to play it a lot but we often forget here in all our bitching and moaning sessions that this is what it’s all about..working for the film even if it’s not a great standalone listen. I’ll give it another few go’s though now I’m inspired by the movie.

Fantastic spook! Glad you enjoyed the movie, as did I! I find myself reflecting mentally on the score, so then I return to a listen every so often when I'm in the mood or feeling contemplative.

The movie was really bad (as a fan of the original Candyman, this fails everthing the original triumph), and the score, outside and inside the movie, fails a lot.

Not against sound design, low key scores, and everything, but this is really, really failure in everything.
