I've been buying a lot of these lately, they usually include different versions of songs. I've been buying Phil Collins and Genesis cd singles. What about you guys, do you buy any singles?

I used to whenever I could.
Particularly because I am a sucker for unique radio edits and remixes.

I used to buy Paul McCartney singles. I believe I have all of them from his Flaming Pie album promotion. I also have a few from the early 90s and 2000s, including one from the UK and one from Japan when Circuit City used to carry imported singles.

Those are the only single I have unless you count the Beatles 1 album compilation that contains most/all of their #1 singles.

The only cd single I think I have is a maxi cd single from 1996, Ballad Of The Skeletons by Allen Ginsberg, which features Paul McCartney, Philip Glass and Lenny Kaye.

Still listen to it today. The man knew the power of words. It's on youtube. Have a listen.

Never heard that one before. I liked the instrumental parts. Not sure I'm a fan of the poetry rap part.

But, yeah. Can't get enough of Paul McCartney. He's a once-in-a-lifetime musical genius.

I admit, it is an acquired taste. Personally I have always liked spoken word poetry set to music. It has a power to mesmerize.

The idea of a CD "single" is an odd one really. I mean, in the days of vinyl, singles made sense: they were much smaller and weighed a lot less, contained usually two songs, one per side, and were played at 45" instead of 33". But what is a CD "single"? It's not really a "single", it's just a CD with less content? Where are the lines? If a CD contains 5 versions of the same song, is it a single? And if it contains 16 tracks it's an album? Even if both are 25 minutes long?

I know, it's basically just marketing putting a category on it, so that if somebody just wants that one song, they can buy four versions of it on a "single" instead of an album.

I have a few CD3's too.
I like them. They were cute.

Also forgot to mention before, that (back when they started out as CD versions of 7" 45's) they would often include a B-side track--which were cool if they didn't appear on any actual album.
