Not sure if this is news to anyone… Bernard Herrmann ‘Film Scores On Phase 4’ Box Set Announced To celebrate the 110th anniversary of the birth of Bernard Herrmann, one of the most original and distinctive composers to work in film, a 7 CD box set of his complete film score recordings for Decca’s Phase 4 Stereo imprint will be released on 25 June 2021. The Film Scores On Phase 4, a collection of seven original albums recorded between 1968 and 1975, remastered from the original analogue master tapes, provides an overview of Bernard Herrmann’s multifaceted musicodramatic genius and his distinctive style. With original album art!

Set claims it was remastered in 24bit 48 kHz but how do they intend to deliver that level of quality on CDs? And what tracks are on here? Are they complete score or the shorter albums?

How much did you pay, John? I saw it priced at £37.99 on Amazon just before the release date, but you could get it £10 cheaper on ebay. I wanted to use up some Amazon vouchers for it, but didn't want to pay 10 quid over the odds.

Others are doing it for as low as £26/£27 but with delivery charges to be added on, and the number of days to wait much longer. The AmazonUK delivery is very quick, so I'd say they are the ones to go with.

I'd be interested in feedback on sound quality too. I have most of this material in two 2-CD compilations from Decca's Eloquence (Australia) imprint, with mastering circa 2010. They sound pretty good, but if the new set sounds better, and throws in Obsession to boot, then, hey, for US $40 or so, I'm in!

Mine arrived Friday from Amazon. £27.94 which I think was the price when I preordered. Great finally having these wonderful albums - listened to 4 so far and already well, well, well worth the price. These wonderful albums have all been available on CD for many years - you're just getting around to them now?

I haven't listened on headphones, but listening in my room, they sound excellent to me. And why not? They were brilliant recordings. It's just a pity they didn't include the other Herrmann albums on Phase 4 at the same time. Cheers

I think we've found a friend for Ford over here with the needlessly condescending tone. Jesus Christ, dude? Is that the sequel to Jesus Christ, Superstar? I got over myself this very morning - it wasn't easy because gymnastics aren't my forte, but it was fun on some level, which is more than I can say about your obnoxious post. Perhaps a look in the mirror would be a good thing for you to do today.
