Seems like Zarvos scored no less than 4 features and a TV movie for Levinson between 2008 and 2015, but now BL is back working with Zimmer for the first time in 20 years, on HARRY HAFT, according to imdb.
Any info on the BL/MC collaborations and why Barry turned to Hans again now?
I have no idea. However he is not the only director who rehire a composer after not working with him for several years. When I read the original post I thought of Ron Howard and his collaboration with Hans Zimmer and Thomas Newman. Between Newman`s Gung Ho and Cinderella Man is 19 years. And between Zimmer`s Backdraft and The DaVinci Code is 15 years or so if I remember correctly.
And then we have John McTiernan who worked with Bill Conti on his directorial debut Nomads back in 1985. When McTiernan did The Thomas Crown Affair remake in 1999 he worked again with Conti who he had not worked with since Nomads in 1985.
So Levinson is not the only director who have done this and I guess there are certainly more directors out there who have done the same but I have no idea why.

Yes, there are many examples. Oftentimes, it has to do with a director hitting it big, and abandoning the collaborator from his or early films (David Julyan and Chris Nolan being a prime example). Then eventually, some return to their old friends. As much as I love Zimmer/Nolan, a new Julyan/Nolan would be cool at some point.
Raimi and Elfman eventually found back together too, after some turmoil.
