I love THE FABELMANS, a movie which poignantly and still with a light, precise touch, deals with universal themes of growing up, having dreams, obsessions, trying to live within reality and still carve out one‘s personal niche to control what one can control, being outside society, being hated on by certain parts of society, learning to make one’s own way, despite obstacles piling up, despite goodness turning into weakness, and weakness turning into strength..
It is one of Spielberg‘s best movies, and if the final shot cannot make you smile you should ask yourself why.
Joanne Pearce Martin, the piano soloist on THE FABELMANS (and principal keyboard of the LA Phil) talks about her experience recording for Steven Spielberg and John Williams:
Now I wish that Williams withheld releasing his Across the Stars compilation album for a little bit, just to hear Mutter's possible interpretation of this theme.
