Fortunately, this score shares disc space with the more fun/enjoyable HUMANOID score. There's an old time/piano style theme, that gets a few work outs and LOTS of Dr Phibes style organ tracks, as befits the subject matter (bonkers Italian Horror guff). The last track is just 6 minutes of noise. This isn't a score I'm ever gonna play again. But the disc will get future run outs due to the 4 tracks from THE HUMANOID that I love.

An extra couple of points for local lass, Babs. Music wise, it's better in the rover / avventuriero score

I was never a fan of Barbara Steele either. Scary eyes!! Always bugged out. They were horror films and not ads for head n shoulders

Is that an extra 13 minutes of Nightmare Castle or Humanoid, Mitch?

About the 2 'extra' tracks on the RCA OST cd from 1992. There is nothing missing in the later releases that I am aware of, the 1992 cd splits the 1st track on the later releases into 3 parts, under the titles Amanti d'oltretomba 1st, 2nd and 3rd versions. I recently watched the movie for the first time and the music is very effective, the organ themes are more impressive in the film than they are on disc. One interesting point about this score, apart from the later (and better) elaboration and use of the Amanti theme in L'AVVENTURIERO (The Rover), is that one of the pieces in Morricone's score to NOVECENTO was also first written for the AMANTI score (it may even have originated from one of his early classical pieces), this theme occurs after about 3 minutes in the track 'Distesi' on the expanded cd's. You can find it as 'Autunno - 1922' on the NOVECENTO lp/cd, a powerful dramatic theme that is used a few times in the AMANTI movie.

I always thought this score, along with SEPOLTA VIVA (Entombed Alive), are some of Morricone's most bizarre works, but at the same time very interesting and enjoyable (Sepolta Viva is more melodic). BTW, the direct translation of the title "Amanti D'Oltretomba" isn't actually "Nightmare Castle", but literally means LOVERS FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE, which I think makes it even more bizarre.
