I just realize it has been a while since I last watched "The Cage" - thanks for reminding me about Pike's line about women on the bridge, I totally had forgotten about that, but I'd agree this was very arkward.

But I do give Roddenberry and his team some slack here, because these decisions didn't seem to come from the creative team behind the show, unlike today (at least that's my impression). There's one exception, and that is the last episode of TOS which seems to be written by someone who had bad experiences with a woman (or women) and then he wrote this episode out of hate, going for revenge or something. A horrible episode was the result.

Anyway, I did find it impressive that after TOS was greenlighted he was able to put people like Uhura, Sulu and later Chekov in there, all the studio concerns aside. In KurtzTrek, none of this boldness is really found because the're not going where no one has gone before, they were just doing what every other show is doing for quite some time (and better).

As for "Strange New Worlds" we'll see. I have a feeling it will be years before we really see something on the screen anyway, thanks to the pandemic.

Reading this thread has damped down my enthusiasm for this series considerably and you are right, new episodes are YEARS away.

On a side note, why are the actors so much older now? Pike and No. 1 (actors) are 47. Compare that to the original actors and Shatner as well. Just a general observation in movies and TV shows these days. Seems like older actors (nothing wrong with that) used more. An actor shortage due to the enormous amount of TV/streaming/movie production these days?

Couple things come to mind with this announcement:

1. A definition of blind consumerism might be: buying a bill of goods from the same people who conned you before—and not just once, not twice, but three times or more—and still expecting they'll deliver on the goods.

2. There's a sucker born every minute.

I sure am glad Alex Kurtzman rebooted the entire ST universe so he could introduce new characters and tell new stories...
