I tried looking back into older posts for mention of this score. But, aside from a number of people mentioning it as belonging on their long list of favorite score of 2015, I could not find much else.
If you didn't see the film, SEE IT! Hearing the the score will mean so much more when you've seen the film
The Disney studio, director Kenneth Branagh, composer Patrick Doyle, and a wonderful cast pull it off so well. This is NOT the 1950s cartoon we all know done live. It's an inspired, updated, and most entertaining re-telling of the story. The mice don't sing. There are no songs, except during the End Credits. It's all dramatically and very romantically done. Screenwriter Chris Weitz hit a home run with his screenplay.
Reviews of the score (admirably performed by the London Symphony Orchestra) include descriptive terms such as "unashamedly fanciful orchestrations and wonderfully optimistic melodies,""heartfelt," "touches your heart and your tear ducts," "magical," "lush," "vibrant and gorgeous," "enchanting," "romantic," and "sumptuous." I think that you get the idea. It's REALLY GOOD and it fits the film perfectly. The special effects are first class.
If you're a burned-out soundtrack skeptic who doesn't want the musical score to tell you how to feel or even be noticed, DO NOT SEE THIS FILM.
If you want a terrific, romantic fantasy that will keep your interest, make you laugh, tug on your heartstrings, and open up your tear ducts, then this is the film for you. I would even say it's a great "date night" film. I am prejudiced, though. This film has a special meaning for me, as it was the last theatrical film I was able to take my wife to see while she was battling her cancer. To walk out of the theater feeling so buoyant and upbeat despite the circumstances was priceless.
See the film. Get the score. Sorry to make it so personal...it just came out.

Ron, I'm so saddened to hear this story of your wife passing. But thank you for sharing that positive experience. Hearing how these scores affect people on an emotional level is perhaps what I value most about this board. I shall make it a point to enjoy both this film and score with my spouse in honor of your sweet wife. I'll probably never look at that score in my collection again without thinking about this story.

Ron, I certainly understand the sentimental value of this film for you. Also, I love your above description of Doyle's music. I agree with all of your joyful adjectives. I too loved the movie and the music. One would have be a robot or rock not to find joy in both the movie and music.
