Patrick Cassidy, whose music I came to know from "Vide For Meum" in Hannibal, who has recently score Calvary and 1916, has recorded a new Mass with the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Voices, with organ and soloists under Ben Parry. Coming November 15th:
Nice. I heard him being interviewed by Marty Whelan on Lyric FM a few weeks ago about this piece and also the opera he is working on about Dante. I also enjoyed his score for the 1916 documentary a few years ago.
Yeah after hearing Vide For Meum I went on the search for more of his music. It turns out it all sounds like that: tonal, generally choral, and big. I managed to get old copies of Children of Lir, Famine Remembrance, and Deirdre of the Sorrows.
I was then happy in the past couple years to hear Calvary, which I loved - and "1916."
The Mass seems to be in that same language. All the better.
I could really go for a better recording of Famine Remembrance. The orchestral performance and the acoustics of that recording leave a lot to be desired.
