SEASON 1:

If I skip any episodes, it's because there is no credited composer.

Even though the show ran for five seasons, very few episodes had an original score, so I can get through this faster than a show like "Hart to Hart" where every episode was scored.

Can you publish again your Gunsmoke thread because it is no longer available on the forum?

Whew -- you scared me for a second there; I don't have back ups of such things!

But thankfully the FSM search engine only sucks and the thread hasn't been deleted:
    https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=121137&forumID=1&archive=0

Keep in mind 99% of the links are dead by now.

For some odd reason, sometimes threads won't show content at all unless you log in.

    EDIT:
I got around the search engine the majority of the time.

I go to Google and I type this in the search bar:
    site:filmscoremonthly.com Gunsmoke Boggan

"site:" allows you to search just the website you follow it up with.

    SEASON 2:

If I skip any episodes, it's because there is no credited composer.

I HAD TO SKIP THIS ONE; NO LOAD FOUND.
    "Bad Cats and Sudden Death"
    By: John Parker

    "Stakeout" (2.5
    By: Michel Mention
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Steh9Z2WcE8 (in German)

This is Mention's only effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 23:29 in.

  • 40:01 in.

    "The Predators"

    Highlights:
  • 0:50/7:47 in.
  • 1027 in.
  • 15:38 in.
  • 18:30 in.

  • 0:42 in.
  • 12:19 in.
  • 36:40/37:48 in.
  • 40:37 in.

    "Child of Fear"
    By: Artie Kane
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_jdI-uAMe8 (in German)

This is Kane's only effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 1:24 in.
  • 4:21 in. And the next cue after a short lull.
  • About 11:15 in.
  • 22:00 in. And the short bit after the commercial break.
  • 28:09 in.
  • 31:09 in.
  • 35:33 in. And the cue after the commercial break*.
  • 40:41 in.

This -- thus far -- is the only scored to anything by Kane I can safely say I'd be okay with a complete release of.

    * = Is that an anklong I hear briefly when the plane lands?

    "Nobody Beats the House"
    By: John Parker

    "Night Flight to Murder"

  • 5:04 in.
  • 11:32 in.
  • 19:57 in.
  • 31:55 in.
  • 38:56 in.*

    * = I don't get it. Why is he covering himself with a jacket to run through the barrels on fire when to the left there is an opening and now fire and -- as we see when he carries the guy out -- there's plenty of room on the right with no barrels or fire. This is some contrived bullcrap.

    "Trial by Terror"
    By: Duane Tatro

    Highlights:
  • 15:02 in.

Does anyone know what happened to John Parker? I don't recall much coming from him after "Cannon". Clever use of the tuba on the "Cannon" theme.

    SEASON 4:

    "Kelly's Song"
    By: George Romanis
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYCfElRXUF4 (in German; all episodes from this point on are in German unless otherwise noted)

    Highlights:
  • 11:39 in.
  • 21:44 in.
  • 25:15 in.
  • 27:08 in.
  • 39:18/41:10 in.

For the guys here: 19:30 in. You're welcome.

    "The Hit Man"
    By: John Elizalde
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S62zWhzb3XY

This is Elizalde's only effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 3:16 in.
  • 22:07 in.
  • 26:03 in.
  • 31:06 in.
  • 39:37 in.
  • 43:09 in.

    "Voice from the Grave"
    By: Albert Harris
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLadXiETyOY

    Highlights:
  • 7:54 in.
  • 14:54 in.
  • 21:11 in.
  • 38:52 in.

Harris had a short scoring career, according to his IMDb credits. He did, however, have a decent career in orchestrating.

I'm not particularly taken by his work here. I would have loved if Dick DeBenedictis had scored an episode -- that would have been really cool.

    "The Deadly Trail"
    By: Tom Scott
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JDPVrTUrcE

This is Scott's final effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 1:46 in. Joining a cue already in progress.
  • 8:54 in.
  • 11:35 in.
  • 16:15 in.
  • 33:27 in.
  • 43:05 in.

    "The Exchange"
    By: Robert Drasnin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFa1ZXS1LTE

    Highlights:
  • 7:11 in.
  • 9:41 in.
  • 14:10 in.
  • 22:40 in.
  • 26:27 in.
  • 33:55 in.

    "The Man Who Couldn't Forget"

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePi8IhM1NF0

    Highlights:
  • 31:30 in.
  • 44:04 in.

If I were compiling a set of scoring, I'd just take the first one. Though if room was an issue, I'd skip it altogether.

    "Killer on the Hill"
    By: John Parker
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlXzSnGkT_A

    Highlights:
  • 0:40 in.
  • 2:59 in.

  • 25:48 in.
  • 35:40 in.

    SEASON 5:

    "Nightmare"
    By: George Romanis
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNgfzzr_3n0 (load slowed down and in poor quality)

This is Romanis' final effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 10:46 in.
  • 13:58 in. It gets real quiet for a few seconds so you think the cue might be over, but it keeps going unti lthe commercial break.
  • 25:08 in.
  • 43:03 in.
  • 50:46 in.

    "The Iceman"
    By: Duane Tatro
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9irLuYELgg0

This is Tatro's final effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 3:49 in.
  • 24:17 in.
  • 36:22 in.

    "The Man Who Died Twice"
    By: Robert Drasnin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8JN_3Kjkas

This is Drasnin's final effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 10:44 in.
  • 11:47 in.
  • 32:48 in.
  • 34:45 in.
  • 38:56 in.
  • 41:36 in. Very Rosenman; ascending tone pryamids and dum dum dum dum's afterwards.

    "Man in the Middle"
    By: Albert Harris
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A52dIR5t35s (load slowed down and in poor quality)

    Highlights:
  • 048 in.
  • 5:50 in.
  • 8:50 in.
  • 21:43 in. And after the commercial break.
  • 23:13/24:13 in.
  • 29:57 in.
  • 31:26 in.
  • 51:11 in.

    "The Star"
By: John Parker and Patrick Williams
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyGcYq0KCuY

I'm not sure if this credit is correct or if there is even a composer credited; the German credits lump the theme music under "music" (there is no load in English I can find). But since it is the last one, I'll just go with it.

    EDIT: (December 9, 2020)
Williams is credited for Part 2 in a load in English, so I assume he did Part 1 as well (the end credits are cut off Part 1).

    Highlights:
  • 3:24 in.
  • 6:17 in.
  • 7:31 in.
  • 12:04 in.
  • 14:03 in.
  • 19:53 in.
  • 21:16/23:45 in.
  • 28:56 in.
  • 32:37 in.
  • 4313/43:30/43:54 in.

If it's a track job, all the cues I cited above are not from any previous episode I covered, so they're either uncredited work or from other series/films. It's got repeating ideas and orchestration sounds, so what ever a lot of this is borrowed from -- if borrowed -- is the same thing. I think I cited nearly every single cue.

Unfortunately, this was a feature-length film and this is only half of it. The other half isn't up.

    Guest staring Dana Elcar.

    TV MOVIE:

    There was only one.

    "The Return of Frank Cannon"
    By: Bruce Broughton
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8Km-XYzDsw

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 2:47 in.
  • 9:23 in. Joining a cue already in progress.
  • 11:03 in.
  • 33:52 in.
  • 43:31/49:33 in.
  • 50:01 in.
  • 53:38 in.
  • 59:30/1:00:50 in.
  • 1:10:19 in.
  • 1:14:06 in.
  • 1:21:42 in.
  • 1:26:42 in.
  • 1:30:18 in.
  • 1:33:20 in. Continues on into the end credits, which features Parker's theme.

24:04 in: LOL, if anybody did that today and got caught, they'd be fired.

    UNCREDITED AND ADDITIONAL COMPOSERS:

Culled from ASCAP and BMI. In no special order.

  • Hermine Hilton. (There were some episodes with songs, and he's a song writer, so I suspect "cues" is very loosely used by ASCAP)

  • James O'Keefe. (I've listed him before on another series; I can't find a composer by that name. Is he forgotten? A fake name so a composer can received twice as much royalties?)

  • Nicholas Carras. (I suspect he did an episode but received no credit)

  • Sam Nestico. (a long-since retired orchestrator; he scored one failed pilot; he orchestrated on a number of TV series, but since he's not credited, they can't be added to IMDb unless somebody in-the-know can identify the episodes of each. He's worked for Kane, so I would guess his additional work was on episodes Artie scored)

  • Milton Raskin. (died in 1977, so what ever he did was early on in the first season)

I think all the highlights I mentioned, minus the TV movie, could be covered on one four or five CD set.

    Concluding SEASON 2:

Doubling back to the only episode I missed because there was no load I could find at the time.

    "Bad Cats and Sudden Death"
    By: John Parker
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXmV9ziF_Eg

    Highlights:
  • 0:42 in.
  • 7:40 in.
  • 15:52 in. Joining a cue already in progress (only a short way in), but this is where it gets cool. There's a brief lull after some piano stuff, and a brief bit of more.
  • 20:40 in. I like this slowed-down version of the theme with cymbal splashes.
  • 23:23 in.
  • 26:45/27:37 in.
  • 34:34 in. Some jazzy car chase music.
  • 39:10 in. I know it's short, but I like it.
  • 40:23 in.
  • 41:23 in.
  • 46:12 in. With some jazzy chase music.

Had a good laugh at this episode; Frank sneaks into a lady's apartment while investigating, she catches him, finds out he's a private investigator and you'd think from that point on they'd be walking and talking, but no, slowly but surely Frank works his way into her kitchen and starts cooking himself something to eat.

Frank: "Seriously? No, that's not very possible."

Looks like you've been on a steady diet of CANNON episodes. Speaking of which...

    SEASON 1:

If I skip any episodes, it's because there is no credited composer.

Even though the show ran for five seasons, very few episodes had an original score, so I can get through this faster than a show like "Hart to Hart" where every episode was scored.

    "Cannon" (Pilot film)
    By: John Parker

    "The Salinas Jackpot"
    By: John Parker
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnRw1oUdbSQ (in German; Youtube only seems to care about illegal loads if they're in English. You really have to upload a lot of shit in other languages before they do anything.)

    Highlights:
  • 2:57 in.
  • 5:04 in.
  • 14:14 in.
  • 21:02 in.
  • 40:19 in.
  • 43:05 in.*

    * = Kevin from "Home Alone" has nothing on Cannon.

    "Scream of Silence"

Let's just call this score what it is: Fucking cool.

Does anyone know what happened to John Parker?

He moved to some despotic country (I think it was Cuba), then he vanished off the face of the Earth not too long after agreeing to an interview; his website under away, his Facebook page is abandoned, nobody that I can find that knows him or worked with him has been able to reach him.

It certainly leaves me concerned for his well being.
