458. Dueling Godzilla philosopher/scholars “chadergeist” and Solium—now capital “S”—in “Star Wars, Gunpowder Milkshake, 007”:

chadergeist: ”Emmerich's Godzilla is what in reality Godzilla would really look like in our world. And not some unknown looking creature that never existed before and from no Earth creature that he would have been mutated from and especially not from a man in a suit either. This is why to me, this movie WORKS! The Godzilla you and i know is a not real monster, Emmerich's is a...in reality, could be a real monster.”

Solium: “Really?! Just be lucky you didn't get a Godzilla design that was a cross between an ape and a whale. Because that's the actual translation in english.”

459. Dylan’s anti-humor lament in “Richard Band Banned from Intrada”:

”Over the past year, the sheer amount of jokey threads does seem slightly out of control and doesn't really reflect the forum as I'd known it for the years prior. As much as I'm guessing we all appreciate jokes, I kind of feel like "humor" threads should go the way of bootleg and politics threads. But that's just me. This isn't aimed at any particular member here who likes posting jokey things - I'm heartened that we're all here because we love a lot of same music, which happens to be music most people don't seem to care about, so we're all real peers - but I just don't remember so much jokiness being a hallmark of this forum in the past.”

Mainstream FSMers’ posts these days read like the Interpol warning at the start of DVDs, minus the humor. big grin

Once upon a time, someone asked what you would bring to a party at MontanaDave's place.

Octoberman had a stunning 1-word reply.

461. Kev McGann in “R.I.P. Diego Maradona (1960-2020)”:

”Maybe John Williams has an evil alter ego too, who shouts obsenities at people in the street, disses other composers left and right and tells everyone in interviews that all his scores are the greatest ever written?
Hell, I think I'll get myself one too.
Watch out world, K-Mag 2.0 is on the way” wink

462. Solium’s dead-on description—every sentence is poetry—of those Hallmark yuppie dystopia holiday films in “What Movie Did You Watch? Rate 1-10!”:

“I see these movies all day long at work. The set design looks like Christmas vomited on the film. They're sooooo ridiculously Christmassy. No ones homes or towns are decorated like this. One Xmas tree isn't enough, how about we put 10 in the bedroom. Two candles aren't enough, how about we put a hundred candles in the room. There's so many Xmas lights it could blind a blind man. Hell I think even the trash cans on the sides of streets are wrapped in wreaths and Xmas lights. There's snow on the ground yet you can tell the temperature is probably in the low 70's. Their faces are perfect like on an indoor set. No signs of a red nose or rosy cheeks, or cold breath like you would see on a very cold day. And the themes are always job/romance related. Wheres the fantasy, the Xmas magic?“

I was watching another one in passing last night and I realize, each and every shot must have Xmas elements in it. There was this office scene where there was nothing behind the two characters but a blank office wall. Yet there were THREE wreaths hung up on the wall! It must be a Hallmark studios mandate in making these films.

The most generic of film genres with a cast even more generic than that.

There are widgets with more unique characteristics than these sausage factory releases.

P.S. Laughed at Joan Hue telling us what we “NEED.” wink

There was a hallmark film where the main lady had 9 Christmas trees alone on her porch. 9. It was insane.

463. Solium exhibiting stroke-like symptoms via his failure to comprehend the subjects of two consecutive topics, “Composers You ‘Should’ Like” and “Favorite Composers vs, Favorite Scores.”:

”Seems like an oxymoron. Why should I connect with a composer when I don't?

“I can think of composes I like but barely pay attention to, and really only hear their music by chance. One example being. Rachel Portman. I should seek out more of her music. Another is George Fenton. But in those cases I liked the composers music.”

I simply disagree with the premise of those threads. Its up to others to argue their case and persuade me.

Speaking only for myself, but you often come across as an 80 year old trying (and failing) to understand rap or punk rock.

Do you mean it's up to me to convince you that others feel this way, or that it's up to me to persuade you to feel like I do? I have zero interest in the latter.

As I mention on the other side of the board, shutting someone out of the discussion because they don't agree with you is lazy. (and by you I don't me YOU) If you want an honest discussion with various thoughts and opinions, engage the reader instead of tossing insults and telling them to move on. I'm open minded so I might actually "get it".

You’re a self-admitted weasel, and you’re NOT getting out of a topic you CLEARLY don’t understand this time, you non-genius, you!
