Apparently its mid season finale tonight, so the usual unresolved cliffhangers left in the lurch probably...

So I thought the last two episodes were solid. Spoilers ahead.

A week ago I was stunned to see Siddq get killed by the Whisperer spy. I liked him, and his medical knowledge was needed. I thought the spy would continue to sabotage Alexandria because that is how it appeared at the end.

So I was surprised and delighted to see how Sunday night's mid-finale began. I didn't know that the lady and her baby would walk in and see what the spy had done. The first 10 minutes were really good. Surprised to see Gabriel really massacre the spy.

Getting very tired of Carol's idiocy. I understand her motive, but she never considers how her actions affect others and perhaps the whole village. An IDIOT could have seen the trap laid by Alpha. Time for Carol to straighten and stop her stupidity. (Hope Gabriel won't pull a Carol and be all "angsty" for another season.) Yep, there was a cliffhanger, but the trailer showed some of those trapped in the various villages later on. I figure a few of those trapped will die but not Daryl or a few others.

I try to switch off before trailers - coz they invariably destroy any tension set up by the finale.

Spoilers.

As ive said before Joan the one thing that bugs me in all these long-standing dramas is how the scriptwriters conveniently alter someone's personality or judgment just to get them in a scrape.

All of our group are battle-hardened vets in this crazy dangerous world - and theyve seen pals die from being careless. Careless costs lives. So they go into alphaland expecting a trap, they find no walkers and then they see alpha - what does Carole do? Proven over 8-9 seasons to be one of the shrewdest no-nonsense sharpest leaders in the group? Go charging after her. Its all bollocks. Someone as shrewd as carole - however emotional - wouldnt do anything as dumb as that.

There is always some license, ok, but established characters doing barking mad things just to get in a scrape is bullshit. We had it not so long ago with Rick and Daryl having a fight in walker territory and ending in a ditch.

As you say the opening of the episode was great. There was something always not right about Dante - too creepily ingratiating. Obviously done deliberately. I think the moment he bragged they wouldnt do anything to him meant a character you wouldnt expect was going to kill him. And when gabriel turned up at the cell, you knew what was coming. About time that useless tosser did something right! Ha ha.

Good point, Bill. Carol was a seasoned vet, so I couldn't buy her chasing Alpha. Beyond stupid. And you were smart to not watch the trailer. (This is the LAST time I ever tell you that you are smart.wink) It gave away too much.

That was a misstep. However, overall I like the first half of this season. It was a lot better than last year's season, so I'm looking forward to its return in February.

I watched the new ep last night. DO NOT READ UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE NEW EPISODE.

Spoilers ahead.

I liked this episode. I found it scary. This is a series that will often kill off a primary characters, so watching the group in the cave was scary for me. Who would live and who would die? Carol has always been a main character, but her neurotic behavior has worn out her welcome. I was ready for her to get bitten. At the end, we have to ask if we have lost two main characters or is there a chance they lived and will be found?

Negan and Alpha and sex? Ugh. I still think he has not returned to the dark side and is playing Alpha.

Read it now.
Negan defo working the camp from within.
He is "picking off the suckers" - stitching up gamma to get closer to alpha. He will make his move when theyve stretched out the series long enough.

Again what we said about changing characters personalities just to get them into scrapes. The Carolbot has been going on the clonk for a while now, plenty warnings in this episode. Not content with getting them in that situation in the caves in the first place she then exacerbates it with the dynamite. And then once rescued, tries again. The carol of the previous 9 seasons wouldnt do this. Shes cold, calculating, and has sharp, reliable judgment. But they suddenly make her a hothead liability? Sorry that dog dont hunt.

We have seen two episodes since the last post. I thought last week's episode was good. I was worried that Darryl could leave us. Alpha seemed to recuperate rather quickly last week. Last night's episode was creepy. I think something or someone will arrive to save the people at Hilltop.

I never want to see a naked Alpha and a naked Negan again. EEWwwwww. (But somehow I still think Negan may try to save the good people.)

I agree that negan is biding his time.

I think you are right, something or someone will arrive to rout the horde - or rain will put out the fires!

To be honest it was a long hour getting to the finale - too much filler and build up. But once one section of their brushwood barrier spattered with gasoline caught fire, the rest wouldve and would have burned the walkers. But it didnt.

And when the whisperers fired burning arrows no way would it have set up a wall of flame that fast. It seemed very contrived.

No doubt there will be a Deus Ex Machina soon; can't believe they'll let the Whisperers ravage throughout all the settlements. Perhaps the two gals that got trapped in the caves will come to the rescue somehow? Or perhaps the 'Helicopter People', as lead-up to the Rick movie?

Either way, they need to wrap up the Whisperer and Negan storylines soon.

Thor, i agree with the sentiment but lets be fair, they never wrap up anything anytime soon do they?

I've given up & stopped recording the show now, although I will give the Rick movie a go.

Getting very bored with whisperers now. When are our humans going to realise that the only weapon the whisperers have is dressing up as walkers n controlling herd- so when Daryl, carole et al all dress up as walkers and turn the tables, its no longer a weapon.

I'm still finding the season well done. Yeah, now Alpha is gone. I hated the way she acted and the way she talked. So what do you all think of the last scene when Negan threw Alpha's head at Carol, and she asked him what took him so long? Were the two of them communicating while Carol acted all angsty and got everyone in trouble? Will Negan take on Alpha's Big Brute and lead the
Whisperers or lead the Whisperers to their death?

I thought this was a very good episode. The opening action sequence with the fire and all the fighting was well done. Why would Negan tie up the girl if he intended to kill Alpha along? I hope they continue it and don’t spend the episode with Michonne. Where exactly is Maggie?

I have the same question. He could have just lied and said he had her to lure Alpha. I'm a bit confused too.

Yes that was just a bit of set up for tension which didnt make sense.

The aplha moment reminded me of Joe Pesci being made and arriving to an empty room...

Im with joan, she shouldve had her throat cut purely for endless overacting and that annoying way of speaking. Ha ha big grin

Question, dunno his name but ex negan man with baby, why didnt he put an arrow thru big guys head and not the walker aunt? Couldve killed her anyway anytime yet big man is known leader of opposition but he let him live?.

The only worry now is that negan might be playing a double bluff and working for his own end?

I did laugh at the bit where negan tried to get the walker to follow him and the thing is going in circles and each time he walked past behind his back negan's shoulders are sighing with frustration ...and then he just says To hell with this and clubs it!! Maugh me laugh out loud and lately that dont happen much.

My guess is, show creators were just trying to create some cheap tension for viewers. So Negan accidently met Lydia. He wanted her to be safe, but she wouldn't believe him and wouldn't go with him voluntarily, so he have to use some violence and dragged her somewhere else. He planned to kill Alpha, when other whisperers (including teleporting terminator Beta) would be occupied, spread and maybe from beginning use Lydia as a bait (even he wouldn't have her). At this moment viewers (at least some) were fooled, that Negan is leading Alpha to Lydia.

Maybe Alden was aiming for Beta, but had a stormtrooper moment.
