Good thing this isn't an old thread because the search engine won't help right now.

So last week I said I liked the opening program for season 10, and I did. Interesting new topics were being introduced.

Not happy with last night's episode. Giving background (which was somewhat done last year for Alpha) on Alpha and Mr. B's meeting could have been accomplished in about 15 minutes. I call the other 45 minutes just filler, and I had hoped for less filler this year. The trailer for next week's episode did look promising. I like forward narratives, not a lot of revisiting the past.

I totally agree, Joan. There was no need for more expository flashbacks for Alpha and the Whisperers. They've simply not made enough of an impact on me to warrant much in terms of origin story. Totally felt like padding.

Also, as with you, I don't generally like flashbacks. Let us in the audience speculate about character motivations and keep the narrative moving forward. LOST went into this trap on more occasions that I can count (both flashbacks and flashforwards).

When i was watching it i thought This is what joanie calls filler! I inwardly groaned when the opening scene said 7 years ago. Episode was just about ok but i agree joan, couldve easily done an hour in 5 or 6 scenes.

"I don't generally like flashbacks" shock horror i agree with thor !! wink

Add me to the list. I am beginning to think the producers/writers are going after the hardcore fans that follow the comic. Geez, this women is not as intersting as the Governor to spend a whole show in flashbacks! Most of the audience has evaporated and they mistake all of us as comic fans. Only those that love the show are left. Disappointing.

I will never participate in any broad dismissals like that. The show is still quite good. But it has its "down" episodes too, like last week's. But overall, I'm more connected to the spin-off series FEAR THE WALKING DEAD at this point, which is more focussed and intimate. It doesn't have Shakespearean kings with tigers and all that.

Got to wonder what the writers/producers are thinking. The Russian spacecraft runs thru the whole episode and we lose momentum on the second show. I thought Fear started well but meander the entire season. If I tried to explain to a friend what happen in Fear this season I couldn't. The Max Headroom character is annoying. They should stop recycling these character actors.

Mmmm. Tonights episode had moments but seemed to be a bit aimless. the whole carole dreaming/hallucinating got boring.

Dragging out Negan's (preposterous) rehabilitation into civil society is tedious. Just get him a spot on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and get it over with.

Yep, I agree, Bill. And I agree with the comment about Negan. He was just too evil to rehabilitate.

Carol's hallucination were dull.

I thought the opening was great. One hour, 5 hours, 24 hours, 40 hours, etc. I like these parts that showed the people in Alexandria battling the constant influx of walkers. Really hate Alpha. Hoping all the good people eventually band together and wipe her out. Please don't try to rehabilitate her.

No comments on last Sunday's episode? I thought it was just okay. Parts good and parts so so. I would have titled this episode "Characters Constant Angst." I got a bit tired of various characters having "angsty" moments.

I'm curious as to how Negan will survive in the forest.

Negan escaping has been coming since they kept him alive. The only thing he'd be good for is killing alpha.

I thought it was a bit odd that they had a breaching of the wall of walkers, rushed to battle overwhelming numbers then it was the aftermath. Weird.

Yeah i thought monday's episode dragged.

Interesting episode monday.
its a guess which way new and improved Negan will go.
He clearly has a plan.
Now is it get among the whisperers and then work against them from within?
Or is it get among the whisperers and help them attack the settlements?
Personally i think hes going in there with a plan to tackle Alpha and the whisperers. They wont let him be killed by the big guy, he will have to have a purpose - presumably win over alpha with his friendship with daughter lydia and his knowledge of the settlements weaknesses.

I think the script writers wanna see if they can make the most hated man on tv turned into a good guy so you are rooting for him.

Yes, it does seem like that is the showrunners' plan. Good luck, I'll say! Negan is about the same level as that bratty kid king in GAME OF THRONES; when you set up someone THAT despicable, it's a cop-out to let them get with away with it. In a way, I love the challenges it poses to our moral orientation, but audiences never forget. The sequence where he hammers those guys to death -- especially Glenn -- is the most traumatic in the show's history. At the very least let him go out sacrificing himself for the group's benefit. The character NEEDS to be closed down.

Yes that is some good points thor. Audience got deprived of their revenge - if they change his whole persona to pussycat negan it doesnt quite ring true.

Joanie what did u think of last weeks episode?

Hey Bill, I think you summed up my reaction to the last ep. Guess we are suppose to root for Negan. Hard to do.

I do tire of Alpha's body language. Bend down and then look up. (constantly) Speak slowly in a way too broad southern accent. It is grating, but that may be how she is directed.

Let's hope she is killed and not rehabilitated. smile

Where is everyone?

I liked last week's episode. I'm not buying that Negan is now totally evil. (Still don't like him.) I think he'll ingratiate himself to Alpha in order to hurt or kill her.

I found parts of it pretty tense.

I didnt post joan coz what i said last week still applied. It seems obvious that negan is doing his "cutting off the head of the snake" by getting close to alpha n the big man ostensibly helping them but plotting an opportunity to kill one or both. Lets be honest, without either of them, the whisperers will fold like a pack of cards.

One thing did occur to me, if dressing as walkers and leading the Walker herd is whisperers only major weapon, why dont carole, nichonne, etc do the same.
Although in meantime clearly carole is on the case with finding the herd, presumably they will destroy them with fire?

You raise a good question. Maybe the walkers could spot Carol and others if they dressed up. Not sure. Never thought about destroying the big herd with fire. Could work.
