Whoa there pilgrim. You having a bad day or you got shares in Godzilla crap of the monsters? I was right. Its a godawful pile of shite. Even bad for a kids film.

I have zero patience for people who watch a handful of minutes of a movie, turn it off, and "review" it.

Ive spent too many years watching far too many shit films that i hoped would get better and they never do. 1 in a million starts badly and gets good. It certainly was never gonna be this.
And i didnt review it...i just said i could tell it was gonna be shit. And it was worse.

And godzilla looked like he'd overdone it at the gym but had also left the coathanger in his costume.

It's just a pet peeve of mine. People texting a friend from the theater, "I'm seeing [movie], the first ten minutes are kinda dull. Does it get better...?"

how about having an attention span longer than Dory?

Godzilla King of Monsters is pretty bad.
I'd say it's worse, entertainment-wise, than the Matthew Broderick one.
The Brian Cranston one from a few years back was the best, despite all the fight/battle action seeming to take place on TV screens.
All three American Godzilla films have great scores though.

Of the Godzilla films I’ve seen, my favourite one by a country mile is Shin Godzilla. And you don’t have to drink a whole bottle of wine to know it’s corked smile

I thought ShinGoji was an excellent return to form.
And the most terrifying physical design in many a moon.

I hope TOHO stays with that depiction for a while, both the looks AND the malevolence.

I seem to remember that the Japanese ripped Godzilla off way back in the 50's...even replacing poor old Raymond Burr with someone who couldnt speak American and spoke in those subtitles that the Donald doesn't like. Ive never heard of this TOHO ...it sounds south Korean, but i guess it is some faddy new name like BOHO (bohemian homeless) o

A reprint of my review from June 7, 2019:

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS (2019) - 7/10

For whatever reason, it hadn't really occurred to me that this film was a sequel to 2014's GODZILLA, which I haven't seen. But not to worry, the first 5 minutes of the film throws in a few flashbacks that give you all the back story you need to follow this singularly uncomplicated film. From what I read, only three supporting characters from the 2014 film appear in this sequel--none of the three leads.

As it turns out, Godzilla doesn't even get the most screen time in this film. That honor goes to the three-headed monster King Ghidorah. Mothra and Rodan also make brief appearances. This film makes as much sense and is about as entertaining as any random Japanese Godzilla film from the past five decades--at least the ones that didn't have little children as the heroes.

There are a few quibbles. The action usually takes place in partial darkness or in the rain. That used to be how producers hid bad special effects, but with the state of CGI today, I'd like to see what all the money paid for. Also, there are too many close-ups and not enough wide shots during the monster battle scenes. That's also a trick for hiding bad effects. (Hey, maybe these effects aren't as good as I think they are!) And, the scale of the monsters, particularly King Ghidorah, seems to vary from sequence to sequence. Sometimes he is as big as a skyscraper, other times as huge as a mountain.

This is the first of the modern U.S. Godzilla films I've seen. I haven't seen a Godzilla film since the Japanese import GODZILLA 2000. I think I would rather have watched that one again.

Egon Schiele: Death and the Maiden (2016) 7.5/10

Going into the film, it helps if the viewer is already familiar with Egon Schiele’s life and work.

Superb performances by the entire cast. Noah Saavedra is Egon Schiele, and Valerie Pachner is a wonder as Wally Neuzil. Maresi Regnier, who plays Schiele's sister Gerti, is also magnificent.

There is some annoying and unnecessary steadi-cam crap in this film. Why? This was made years after such nonsense was trendy.

The score makes its presence known immediately in the film’s opening moments (“The Nightmare”). However, there are long stretches in which the score is not heard. The music is beautiful, and well performed. It’s also surprisingly subtle in context within the film. Listening to it on its own will yield even greater rewards, as the score is incredibly atmospheric and deeply melancholy--be careful, you morose types.

There’s more female nudity in the film’s first 10 minutes than there has been in all of the Hollywood films of the last 15-20 years combined.

Having said that, the film boasts some gorgeous natural scenery, such as when Egon and model/dancer Moa are seen riding a bicycle together.

It’s refreshing to see a film in which young people--or young artist/Bohemian types of a long-ago period--1910 in this film--actually being young people and having fun; it brings the viewer into the era, but the film makes those characters disappear and that’s disappointing.

Walburga (Wally) Neuzil is by far the most interesting character. Whenever I read an Egon Schiele biography, I curse his name for having dumped the beautiful, magnificent Wally for Edith, the rich chick Schiele ended up marrying. It is gratifying to see that the filmmakers agree with me. Wally Neuzil deserves her own film because she’s more interesting than Egon Schiele.

I wish there had been more emphasis on Schiele the artist and less time spent on his relationships, as there are already numerous artist film bios which cover the same ground.

WHOSE LIFE IS IT ANYWAY? 9 out of 10 (1981)

Richard Dreyfuss is a superb sculptor with a lovely artistic girlfriend. He rams into an out of control truck and breaks most of his bones including his neck. Six months later, we see him in the hospital where he seems at first funny and makes jokes. His bones are healed, but he is a complete quadriplegic who can only movie his head, and he must be on dialysis twice a week in order to live. He also has to be turned every two hours to avoid sores. The trucking company is paying his medical bills. When he finally realizes that he will never move anything below his head, he asks his girlfriend to move on, and he decides that he wants to be checked out of the hospital and simply go to a room and die. He wants all life-sustaining treatments to stop.

Christine Lahti plays the kind doctor, and John Cassavetes is sort of the evil doctor who refuses to let Dreyfuss leave and die.

Dreyfuss is excellent in this movie. He hires a lawyer to argue his case with the hospital administration and their lawyers. He isn’t asking them to kill him. He simply argues that he has rights over his body and wants to leave the hospital, be on his own, and stop treatments. The hospital argues that he is too depressed to make a rational decision. (Who wouldn’t be depressed?) He delivers a powerhouse speech to the administration about the quality (or the absence of quality) of his life.

I wanted to see this movie since people had discussed Arthur B. Rubinstein’s score. It is lovely in places, but at times seems too upbeat for the visuals.

Of course, medical practices have changed in the last 40 years. There was a brief mention of rehab, but the hospital seems to want to keep him in their facility. Now hospitals would rather quickly ship someone to rehab and then to some type of assisted living or nursing home.

Yeah, I actually like the film. I have issues with some stuff but its a guilty pleasure and quite engaging at times though having many of the current day blockbuster trappings. The Stranger Things girl put in a really good performance too.

JoJo Rabbit
8.75/10

A ten-year old boy is in the hitler youth and also has Adolf Hitler as an imaginary friend, as WW2 comes to a close and the Allies approach Germany.

It is very funny throughout. It has really nice design, not as stylized as Wes Anderson, but reminiscent in some aspects, and is very well shot. The actors appear to be having a lot of fun. The child actors are endearing and very good in their roles. The main kid is excellent, and his chubby little friend is a hoot. Scarlett Johansen does a good job grounding the domestic situation to make it somewhat believable. Taika Watiti somehow works as the main kid's imaginary friend Adolf Hitler.

The music by Michael Giacchino works well, i noticed it especially in a few moments.

Though it is very funny, it also has some very dark moments. I don't think these were pulled off as effectively as they could have been, mainly because everything is so funny around it, but they are somewhat effective; and one reveal in particular is very well done.

I really enjoyed it. My favourite film of the last year or more, probably.

I've been looking at this on ebay for a few weeks. Criterion have now released a mega box set of Gamera blu rays - 12 films in total.

I've got to say, as a Godzilla fan since my teens, I did enjoy the last two Godzilla films from Warner.....they were far from perfect, and the acting was dreadful - but so was the acting in the Toho films.... The monster action was great. I was also very disappointed with Shin Godzills which didn't have enough action for me.

Parasite 10/10

For a foreign language film it didn't feel like I was watching a film not in my own language. Very clever film. You can feel the underlying tensions building. The complete right turn plot twist was sensational. It was a film of two halves but both were great.

Indie artist here. Hoping one day to see the songs I create on a big screen.
