I just wish Intrada and La La Land could mirror Varese's UK initiative - I would buy so many more soundtracks if they did.

Because of the whole Brexit thing all advantages of Varese's UK store have basically disappeared. But it was nice while it lasted

I must say, the advantages haven't disappeared for me.

Getting titles from Varese's UK store means I get my orders in 2 days rather than 2 weeks.

The postage is a couple of quid instead of 15.

And there are no ransom letters from HMRC demanding payment or you'll never see your CD again.

Now, I'll buy from Intrada and LLL freely, because if it's a title I want, I'm not going to be deterred by the extra cost, wait and risk.

But the Varese UK store is very cool with me.

Cheers

Intrada and LLL already have an exclusive distributor in/for Europe so setting up a store like Varese has in the UK might not be possible.

I LOVE the Varese UK shop!
As noted above, being able to get their new editions REAL QUICK and paying in squids is nice.
Plus, I hoovered up some real bargains along with PRESUMED INNOCENT (some were a fiver and GREAT CHEFS was £3.98!!!).
And although the postage on one disc is £3.99, buy 2-7 and it's only £4.99 FOR THEM ALL!!
I've got a nifty little parcel on its way to my domain right soon.

But they ship 1 CD for 12.99 GBP to the EU (at least to Hungary) and I have to pay customs/VAT in addition to that... So I think twice what to order and where to order from.

Hello

Is there any chance all the other labels could come in on this and run it as a joint venture?

Seems like we could do with some out of the box thinking to ease the financial situation.

Regards

CC

Yes, you have to buy at least a couple of titles to make the uk postage cost effective now.
For me this time the best solution was Intrada, and wait a bit like longer.

They're businesses if you haven't noticed (Intrada is also a proper retail outlet as well), not non-profit organisations. The labels probably take a sizable hit on some titles...

So is Varese Sarabande. What's your point?

Intrada sells other labels as well, Varese Sarabande doesn't. They only sell their own stuff, so they're not like a regular shop.

I'm curious to know who this exclusive Intrada/LLL European distributor is too, and can I save some dosh by purchasing from them?

All I can tell you is that I'd buy more Intrada and LLL discs if they did what Varese had done: either set up their own or join in this one. It's not the cost of the discs themselves, which is perfectly reasonable, it's the unjustifiable addons. Ever-increasing postage and customs charges have forced me to cut back to a tiny fraction of score purchases. It's not just that I'm passing on any number of premiere releases and expansions that I'd ordinarily have bought and enjoyed, it's also that I'm no longer willing to explore, to take a chance and try something new.

It may be great for Britain, but since Brexit, there is no advantage at all from purchasing Varèse Sarabande CDs from Varèse International (which is in the UK) rather than the official US site if you live in the EU.
I ordered some time ago some discs, and added to shipping came considerable (about the price of a CD) import fees, something I have not had ordering from the US. (These import fees came in a separate document via UPS.)
Worse, on two occasions they sent me the wrong disc, so I had to return it them (postage was paid by them, that was ok), however, when they send me the replacement, each time I had to pay ANOTHER import fee, so that a single CD like THE RUNNING MAN cost me about 70-80$. That's just too much.

I assume this refers to Luc Van de Ven's long established Belgium based distribution network which supplies solely to European retailers.

Don't blame me, I voted remain...

In fairness, it's probably no better the other way around - there's most likely no advantage in my ordering from France, Germany, Italy, Spain.... frown

Yeah, it's now the same for UK buyers with Music Box.
And Quartet postage renders any sales as moot too.
It's cheaper to go to Intrada or MovieMusic or SAE, with a bulk order, than to buy from our European neighbours now.
So having Varese on our doorstep is some solace from the buffoonery we endure every day from our (so called) leaders!!

Done, I do not blame you. :-)
And yes, I have heard from people within the UK that it's just as bad the other way around. Sad.

And I do not blame Varèse Sarabande International obviously. It's not their "fault", I am fully aware of that.

Yup, if you're in the UK, buying imported CD soundtracks is now very expensive (& they all are imports), so it's great that Varese have a UK base...not that I've bought anything from them yet (my last Varese buy was Dracula), but should they release anything I want, then I'll be a happy customer. As soon as Quartet releases something I want to buy, I'll order it straight away, postage & all (I think my last Quartet was Swashbuckler). When you're only buying a couple of releases a year, high cost don't seem to matter that much.
