LLLCD 1572
Music by James Horner
Limited Edition of 5000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $29.98

STARTS SHIPPING JAN 7

La-La Land Records, Universal Pictures and Sony Music proudly present a limited edition, remastered and expanded 2-CD release of legendary composer James Horner’s (STAR TREK II – THE WRATH OF KHAN, GLORY, TITANIC) original motion picture score to the timeless 1989 baseball-themed drama FIELD OF DREAMS, starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta, and directed by Phil Alden Robinson. Maestro Horner’s score to this classic film is a pitch-perfect work that expertly blends synth and orchestra to create a beautiful and deeply-felt tapestry tinged with Americana. Horner’s home run of a score gets the deluxe treatment with this limited edition reissue, remastered from the original digital tapes and expanded with previously unreleased music. Disc One features the expanded original soundtrack, while Disc Two presents the re-mastered 1989 Original Soundtrack Album.

Produced by Mike Matessino and Neil S. Bulk and mastered by Matessino, this 2-CD release is limited to 5000 units and includes exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond and art design by Jim Titus.

So the Film sequence (of the score) is about 9 minutes extra with addtional 10 of Bonus/alternates.

The first album featured the track "Field of Dreams" (played on guitar by Tommy Tedecso) which is absent from the movie (and therefore from CD1 of this new edition). So the first album featured a little more than 47 minutes of music present in the movie.
The CD1 of the new edition, without the bonus/alternates, has a duration of 59:38 so that's almost 13 minutes of extra music.

And I also find 13 minutes by adding up all these tracks.
The Voice At Night :46
The Vision 1:25
Man On Your Lawn :19
Dinner's Ready 2:10
The Voice 1:09
I Had The Same Dream :33
Terence's Vision 1:05
I Play Baseball / I'm Archie :40
Rookies :28
Night Game 1:37
The Magic Hit 1:01
The Decision 2:41

Dear LLL -

Thanks so much for making the complete score of this available. Why that great cue "The Decision" was left off of the initial OST release in favor of something like "Old Ball Players" (the big band thing) I will never know.

There's no notation of previously unreleased music in the track list?

It isn't always contractually required to use markings to indicate that.

JB-Martin's post just a few posts before yours tells you which tracks are new, in addition to the "(Film Version)" tracks which are also new

Ah, okay. I don't think Ive ever not seen such notations before.

There are probably more expansions in the world that don't use stars to indicate previously unreleased material, than there are expansions that do.

If I wanted to create a program which included the songs not on the expansion, does anyone already know what songs I would need to have and where would they go?

Ta smile

Edit: the original source posting also had 'Crazy' by Beverley D'Angelo listed.

If I keep this up, I won't need anyone else's help...! I did "Field of Dreams" today, and here is what I came up with (the tracks with the * before them weren't on the original soundtrack, but they were in the movie, in case anyone wants to make their own CD):

1) The Cornfield
*Crazy (Beverly D'Angelo) [Heard when Ray is at the store asking another old farmer if he's ever heard voices.]
10) Night Mists [I actually wasn't entirely sure about this one, but it was the only logical place for it, and the closest to the music heard in the part of the movie; when Ray is in the field and hears the voice for the second time, and then sees the baseball field and Shoeless Joe.]
*Daydream (The Lovin' Spoonful) [Heard when Ray and Annie are eating dinner and discussing building the field.]
2) Deciding To Build The Field
3) Shoeless Joe
5) Old Ball Players
8) The Library
*Jessica (The Allman Brothers Band) [When Ray heads to Boston to find Terence Mann.]
9) "Moonlight" Graham
*China Grove (The Doobie Brothers) [When Ray and Terence leave Boston to go to Minnesota.]
*Lotus Blossom (Duke Ellington) [In the background of the bar when Terence is asking the old men about Doc Graham.]
4) The Timeless Street
6) The Drive Home
11) Doc's Memories
12) The Place Where Dreams Come True
7) Field of Dreams
13) End Credits

So there we go...I hope to get a couple more done this weekend, unless someone else besides alan answers the call, so to speak, and posts something...!

in addition to the "(Film Version)" tracks which are also new

Are you sure? I seem to recall "Deciding to Build the Field" is the same in the movie as the OST. Are you sure this isn't a way to delineate between the film version and the alternate version? I just also remember Night Mists and Old Ball Players being truncated, not completely different takes. I could be entirely off base, though.

Herby ordered!

That alternate of Deciding to Build the Field sounds pretty snazzy!

JB, I've really enjoyed your recent Horner expansion breakdowns on your site. Will you be doing one for this release?

Ordered, obviously, but yikes, the shipping costs to the UK can make your eyes water.

I've bought five-disc boxsets for less than this disc is costing me, all-in. I know its not La La Land's fault, but crikey.

Very annoying that this is a two-disc set, when the entire score -- plus alternates -- fit onto the first CD. We're paying ten bucks more for a second CD we already own!
