Who else thinks this might sell out kinda fast?
I (as one who didn't even know La-La Land existed when BTAS came out and has almost no hope of attaining an affordable copy and who knows that the sentence in these parentheses is getting too long so will end it here), for one, would love some Shirley Walker music.

Hi Giacchino-Fan,
I have a BTAS CD for trade. Drop me a line (hero_of_universe (at) web.de) and we can see, if we can work something out.

...it doesn't have the fan power something like B:TAS has... no I don't think it'll sell out TOO fast.

I think this is a pretty accurate assessment. FLASH sounds great, but it certainly does not have the following BTAS has. TAS is the quintessential version of Batman for many, and I would predict a second volume to sell out as quickly as the first, if not sooner.

But I think FLASH will do very well smile

Thanks Jonathan. I dropped you an email.

Maybe the Flash won't sell out to soon, but I still will probably get a copy RIGHT when it comes out.

I've noted almost nobody is talking about the other CD!

I like Shore. Sound clips dependent, I'll probably be getting both.

Honestly, Elfman's theme is the worst thing about The Flash. It's not often you can say that about Elfman, but that's how good Walker's material is.

How dare you, sir.

I'm assuming that the 2CD set will include the pilot score, which is considerably more hefty than the later episodic scores. Shirley's music was very much in the Elfman-mode of the early '90s (DARKMAN, DICK TRACY), heavy on the brass, copious bongo rhythms ("Track Test" is right out of Danny's "Peppy Science" from DARKMAN).

It's almost hard to believe this is what television music sounded like once upon a time. Now I'm depressed.

The theme is a little TOO close to Batman for me. You don't think?

So is Dick Tracy but it's still good.

Yeah, the themes for his "comic book" scores post-Batman were all kind of annoying (the scores themselves were fine, though), but The Flash is the worst because it sounds like an NFL Films ripoff of his Batman theme.

I think the Flash theme is a distinct blend of his early 90's techniques. The theme is perhaps hidden in the orchestration more than Batman or Dick Tracy, and for me that meant I didn't appreciate it as readily, but it really grew on me. Especially the reversal of the triplets roughly 17 seconds into it, from off the beat to on. I actually like that he made an effort to make the theme stylistically similar to Batman: TAS; for me that sound defines the feeling of the DC Universe just perfectly.

Aren't the last few notes of THE FLASH theme basically the same as John Williams' "Hedwig" theme from HARRY POTTER? John, you old dog wink

I think it's appropriate for the character, and it gives the show an energetic opening. Shirley Walker puts the theme through a number of iterations in the series, reinforcing it with each episode. That's where the theme truly becomes enjoyable - hearing how she manipulates it.

I feel pretty stupid right now -- I totally thought this was an animated show, not live action. Is it a mix of both?

-Rick O.

I, too, assumed it was animated, Rick, and for some reason, knowing that it's live action makes this release much more appealing to me. Weird, I know.

The show had an interesting pedigree behind the scenes; Danny Bilson & Paul De Meo (Trancers, The Sentinel, Viper, The Rocketeer) produced it. The hired Howard Chaykin (American Flagg) as the story editor. John Francis Moore was a comics guy who wrote for the show.

They had interesting takes on The Flash's rogues gallery. All in all, generally a fun show.

Bilson & De Meo recently wrote for the Electronic Arts video games; GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, Everything Or Nothing, Medal Of Honor: Rising Sun, among others.

It's not Goldsmith.

Thank goodness. I am glad for something different...

That said, I will be buying the Flash next week!!

They also hired future creators of The Pretender Steven Long Mitchell and Craig W. Van Sickle as writers, and they went on to do the first TV attempt at Human Target.

And Danny Bilson, of course, co-created Rachel Bilson. smile

Wow, really? Everything Or Nothing was probably the best James Bond game made. Everything about it was immensely impressive!

Re The Flash. Let us not forget a certain actor best known as Luke Skywalker and The Joker in BTAS appearance as The Trickster.

With regards to the Ryan Shore cd, I like what I have heard by him, so I will probably pick it up as well.

Its no surprise. Hamill is a huge comic book fan.

Here he is with two other well known actors and comic fans - Billy Mummy and Miguel Ferrer - with Jack Kirby, Jerry Siegel, Bob Kane circa 1988.

(Amazing that they got Kirby in a photograph! That guy was harder to get in a picture than Bigfoot!)

Hamil's appearances on THE FLASH as The Trickster are tremendous fun. He was like the bastard son of Frank Gorshin and Cesar Romero - his manic energy is incredible. He must have been gasping for breath after every take.

Fifteen years later, Hamill reprised the Trickster in a Season 5 episode of Justice League, too. smile

I believe I also once read that his performance as the Trickster is what led to him getting the Joker on Batman: The Animated Series when the producers decided to recast the past.

I really enjoy Shirley Walker, so I'm enthusiastic about this release. I can't say I was sold by the show itself, since I'm not entirely oriented with it, but I really enjoy Walker's presence on just about anything. Thank you, La-La Land. Here's hoping for further success with your soundtrack enterprise. smile
