As far as I remember, it didn't get a cinema release in the UK*.
Straight to video, I think?
I remember watching it on video, but I'm not even sure I made it the whole way though?

*although, during the 80s, when studios decided to bypass expensive cinema releases for their (lesser/flop) films, in favour of cheaper straight to video option, a film might play for a week in ONE cinema in London, with very little promotion.

Does the improved mastering on this edition highlight those horrendous brass flubs (The Wrong Flag...ouch*) even more than the original edition?

*makes Battle Beyond The Stars sound like the LSO wink

This is surely hyperbole. The Lionheart performance isn't great, but there's nothing remotely as painful as some of the performance in Battle Beyond the Stars. To me it's much more akin to say Conan the Barbarian (if a little less good than that). Rough and unpolished, to be sure, but nowhere near how painful BBtS gets at its worst (and I still manage to enjoy that score).

To my surprise, I found Lionheart at Blockbuster way back when. It was a really feeble film. I had the soundtrack about a year or two before finally watching it and the score painted all these grand situations in my mind but the filmed reality was so much smaller and compromised. A classic example of Jerry scoring a far superior imagined version of a movie than what he was presented with.

This speaks to the vast gulf between what soundtrack collectors want and what movies actually require.

As usual, Mr. Bond provides an excellent observation, one that applies to many film scores beyond Mr. Baseball.

That looks nice for the image. But, the text is hard to read.

My guess is that's partly why the back cover looks the way it does.

I much prefer being able to read the information clearly. It's one of my big pet peeves about some album graphic design, or graphic design in general. Yes, we want it look like nice. But, I don't want to strain my eyes, get a magnifying glass, or zoom in with my phone's camera to read the damn thing!

By the way, I almost missed it in the small type, but I notice now that Lukas Kendall is listed as a Production Assistant.
Production Assistant jobs are described at thebalancecareers.com as (quote):
"The production assistant (PA) is an entry-level role for a film or television production. The position may be based in an office or on the set. The PA does just about anything and everything, from getting coffee to making script copies to shuttling crew or equipment around town as necessary".

That's a very general definition, and really only applies to PAs working on set. PAs do different work based on the different area of entertainment they work in.

For a soundtrack release, I highly doubt that definition applies, as that entry level type of position won't get any credit on an album release.

Also, if the production has a union pay agreement attached to it, chances are no PA is shuttling crew or equipment around.

Make no mistake, Lukas Kendall is a full-fledged record producer. Whether he performed the equivalent functions on this release is unknown. It may be that he did, but was assigned a lesser-status credit in deference to standing Varese staff and executives.

It's a nice effort but illustrates what i mentioned earlier. You end up with something that compromises both the image and the copy. Its a battle of priorities. What's more important, the image or the information? It's a case where the two can't really successfully coexist with that amount of copy content.

Personally, a back cover is the more functional side of the CD.

Gosh, doesn’t Jerry look young in that picture.

True. But, that won't change the size of the CD back cover, or increase the contrast between the font and the background image.

Definitely of its time. I wonder if there was a style guide for their LPs and CDs back then, as they all had that look.

Gee, I’d say the new rear cover is an improvement, wouldn’t you? Maybe it’s just me.

Basil? Do you prefer this one? You seem to think that things used to be better in the old days, and are so much more critical about anything released today...

I agree it's an odd credit.

I know you're not asking me but the new back cover is much better. The old back cover is just gaudy looking, not because of its simplicity but choice of colors.
