This thread will replace the previous one which covered only Varese Sarabande titles on HDtracks. This new thread will cover all soundtrack releases posted to the site. Titles for this week have begun posting early, and since there already 4 of them, I will start listing them today and update this posting if any additional titles become available.
New this week (so far):
Lost: Season 2 by Michael Giacchino and Tim Simonec
They just added Howard Shore's The Hobbit 9Special Edition) in 44.1/24-bit but the price is a steep $21.98!
If you use the code feb10 at checkout, you'll save 10%, bringing the price to $19.78. That code is good until the end of the 28th and can be used only once for an entire order.
By the way, the 2CD release on Amazon is $18.86. If you add tax and shipping that makes it more expensive than the hi-res download.
Shipping is easily covered by buying something else to put it over $25.
Plus I have a Prime account so 2 day Shipping is Free. Anyway I'm glad they got it as I was just on their site looking for it yesterday....I think I'll just go for the CD though.

Wuss! Just kidding. I too have Amazon Prime, though I have to pay sales tax.
Holy moly! This is a surprise! There are two hi-res versions available, 192khz/24bit for $24.98, and 96khz/24bit for $17.98. This release adds 4 previously unreleased cues at the end of the original album presentation.

$25 dollars for digital only download?! Christ even most new stuff released on CD don't cost that much. Yep, can't wait until we go all digital.
(looks up how to post meme of someone yelling at themselves in a mirror).
For one, the $25 is better-than-CD quality. Even the $17.99 one is better-than-CD quality. You'd be paying $20 or $30 for the 1 or 2 disc set if this was a CD, and it'd still be in lesser quality than the two download options available here.

To be fair you can have it for much less from iTunes, even the $18 for "better than CD" quality isn't that out of whack from buying the physical product. Admittedly the whole extra $7 for 192khz is a bit much when very very few will have the tech to actually play it and enjoy it.
If I recall correctly, the original "Jurassic Park" score CD released on MCA in 1993 carried an AAD SPARS code (i.e. it was an analog recording). Mine is boxed up, so I cannot readily check.
If it is an analog recording, then the 96 kHz and 192 kHz sample rates might be mildly justifiable. However, if it is a digital recording, I guarantee that it was recorded at 48 kHz, and the higher sample rates are marketing hooey.
