I'd dearly love a "Complete Adventures of Indiana Jones" set, with complete scores for all installments of both the TV show and the film series.

My guess is that there'd be blood on the streets if the only way you could get the complete film scores was in a box set with the complete TV series scores.

Does anyone know if all the Death Wish Michael Winner soundtracks could be all in one tribute box set?

Do we need an expensive end of the year boxed set?

I would say not necessarily. While some things do cater to that format like the Star Trek: TOS set not everything is better in bulk. Keep in mind that movie scores in singles are cheaper and more affordable to ship and considered less value for folks that must pay extra taxes on them.

Well a year plus on since I posted this thread. Don't think there was a mega box set released towards the end of this year unlike previous years or am I incorrect ? What would you dream for soundtrack box set wise in 2015 ? And if I did miss out on 2014 any recommendations please ?

I, for one (and, frankly, I may be the only one who'd be interested), would love to see a box set of all the surviving MGM materials, including scores from the 30's, mostly done by Herbert Stothart. I know a lot of these exist, and there was even talk at one point of a possible release. (God knows, they brought out a set of the scores to all the MGM LASSIE movies, and I can only imagine how many people actually bought it, besides myself....)

I would also, and this would be bought by a few dozen more people than myself, love a box set of the music of Alfred Newman, though I have heard, on very good authority, that this is highly unlikely, mostly because it's believed, and, sadly, rightly so, that there's so little interest in Newman's music that such a venture would not be economically feasible for producers.

Oh well....

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
If fancies were swords, I'd have one by my side...

Jaws would be the one for me.

Only the first score was expanded, and with sound issues (reverting to stereo the 5.1 mix prepared for the DVD). Doug mentioned in a thread at the Intrada board that the original tapes exist and are in perfect conditions (even if a bit hissy due to the type of tape the score was recorded in the 70s), what made me think he might be working on it. Then there's also another thread on the "packaging" for a set at Intrada. I hope it turns out to be Jaws:

Jaws - complete remastered and remastered album rerecording
Jaws 2 - complete (with album edits as bonus tracks)
Jaws 3-D - complete film versions (and album early Versions)
Jaws The Revenge - complete from the original tapes (the promo came from a 2nd generation copy of the planed album tha Michael Small had and has a lot of hiss)

An Airport box set would also be great.

What was the notable soundtrack box sets released in 2014 ? Would appreciate your views and guidance as I am very broad in my soundtrack likes, thanks.

If you're willing to extend your definition to a set that is not technically a "box," then the Intrada release of the six Elmer Bernstein Ava recordings from original stereo masters is what I consider the best set of 2014. These recordings in high quality stereo had been long awaited.

The La-La Land Naked Gun set is the next biggest highlight for me. But, again, it is technically not a "box"; not that the distinction means anything to me personally.

Thanks Smitty. Guess the definition of a "Box set" can mean a number of guises for me. I love good artwork which can be simple or striking whether presented on cardboard or housed in or on jewel cases etc. Thanks for your choices.

That Mancini set from Sony is sweet and the Cooder set from Warner Bros is great as well.
