Sorry, it has been a long weekend and we squeezed the movie in. I almost fell asleep watching it!
I corrected my post above. Disney...Pixar...Disney/Pixar, you knew what I ment. BRAVE was a
Disney/Pixar film and was so much better.

For a Pixar movie, I actually thought Brave felt much more generic than their usual style. And several reviews of it I've read since made note of how it felt a lot more like a Disney (sans Pixar) film rather than something from Pixar. It wasn't bad, but it was far from my favourite Pixar film in the grand scheme.

Wreck-it-Ralph was quite fun, on the other hand. No, it's not in the same league as Pixar's best, but it was still pretty enjoyable and a very solid Disney film.

This is a very fun movie and I thought the score did a great service to the picture. It meshed perfectly with the overall sound design of the film, which was brilliant in its own right.

At least it wasn't a sequel/prequel (though that said, bring on Monsters University). I'm sure they'll be back to speed before long.

I really like the "videogamey" synth sound made to sound like the old Nintendo and 8-bit games. smile This was a fun score to listen to. I'm surprised they didnt throw in a Sonic theme or two. That wouldve been cool.

I've been playing the (my) highlights of this score all over the weekend.
I really love the orchestral elements allied to that '80's game sound' of which, I must admit, I'm not THAT familiar with but was fully aware of.
Like TURBO (another Jackman animated score I really dig), it's light, fun, diverse and adventurous. The themes are short, but sweet.
I do tend to find Jackman scores either hit or miss. For every (thumbs-up) KICK-ASS or MONSTERS VS ALIENS, there are (thumbs down) ABRAHAM LINCOLN and G I JOE 2.
It's still early in his career and I already position him in the upper tier of the (ex?) Remote Controllers, together with Mark Mancina and John Powell.
While not at their level for me yet, the fun and promise I hear in the scores mentioned above give me hope that he may well go on to entertain me in the years to come.

So the soundtrack to the sequel is out, and based on a quick listen, it is a real winner. Has anyone else checked this out yet?
