She brought something to Lost in Space that Will, Smith, and the Robot just didn't have. I would like to have seen more of her. Then seek out a copy of The Gemini Affair. It's an atrocious film from 1974, but she stars in it. And you do get to see more of her.

Born here in Oslo, Norway, apparently! Her story is fairly compelling. She was adopted out of a war orphanage where she had been ostracized for having had a German father. Her success in America is like a fairy tale in that sense.

Wonderful post, Zap! Thanks for this. I also didn't know her background; makes her success all the more wonderful.

As some of you are no doubt sick of hearing, I'll always recall my roommates and I sitting around having dinner back in the nineties, and how entertained they all were by my going on...and on...and ON about how much I, uh, respected Judy from Lost in Space. At the point of nearly choking, the girlfriend of one of my roommates (she ended up living with us and becoming my friend, too), finally blurted out, "That's my Aunt Marta you're talking about!" Marta K. married my friend's uncle some years back. My friend wasted zero time in spilling all of this to Aunt M., who reportedly got a big laugh out of it. (I didn't get a response on where I could find a copy of ONCE.) I was gonna meet her and everything. I wish the story had a funny ending, but other events made what would have been a funny anecdote for me, anyway, impossible at that time, and not long after I moved out of the state. But I was once again reminded that one can never be too careful when talking about childhood crushes in mixed company!

New interview with Marta Kristen and Mark Goddard Feb 2015 edit: this is a dead link now so I'm taking it out. I'm glad I archived the text.

Happy Birthday indeed! I had a huge crush on her way back in the ancient of times! Does anybody remember Marta doing a commercial for, I think it was, milk? It was long after LiS ended, at least 10 years or more as I remember it. She was dressed in a form fitting outfit and doing a yoga split. Anybody? I swear this was not a dream! I wonder if it's on youtube (which is blocked at work, so I can't look).

Do pressure your connections to release ONCE before I get any older. Humanity has been deprived of this beauty way too long. I saw it 36 years ago, and have never been the same since. Richard
