I spoke of this film a few months ago. First off, anyone who watches the horrid put together of parts one and two gets what they deserve. The International version listed here is parts one and two complete. The battlefield scenes in Lord Of The Rings are child's play compared to this film - the imagination and tactical cleverness in the battle scenes of Red Cliff is breathtaking to watch. The score is fantastic.

The score is fantastic. I agree. I used 'Lord of the Rings' merely as a reference point. These battlefield scenes ARE the best filmed of any battlescenes in any film - ever. The technical aspects to every detail in every department are staggering! Cinematography, Sound, Sound Effects, Film Editing, Art Direction, Music, Costume Design, The Direction by John Woo, The Film itself and, most importantly The Special Visual Effects, should all have been nominated in their respective fields. I don't know why the film failed to win any nominations at all. I urge anyone who loves sheer spectacle to watch this film - and make sure it's The International Version on dvd or blu ray.

I can tell you why it won no nominations - because they only made the put-together version eligible - that version, which cuts almost the entirety of one entire film out, is incoherent and terrible. If they'd made even part one eligible I'm sure it would have gotten SOMETHING.

Yesterday at work I mentioned this film to a co-worker who is 'seriously into' mixed-martial-arts. I offered to lend him my copy, and he seemed inthused about it then came back to me and said: 'I just remembered I already played the video-game, so I know what's going to happen, so I'll pass.' I was truly surprised at this response, though I didn't mention it to him, or press him on it. But I'd never had anyone before tell me they didn't want to see a new film because they'd already played the video-game! Oh well.

Coincidentally, I have rented this week both parts on Blu Ray from Netflix. Popped Disc 1 in the player, and after displaying a few company logos the disc refused to play. Same with Disc 2. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem with these movies. I can only think I need a firmware update, but that seems surprising as I just bought my Oppo player in January. Just thought I'd ask. These enthusiastic posts make this technical problem even more frustrating! Hello Zoragoth. Your profile doesn't say where you live, but if you use Netflix, it must be somewhere in The U.S. I returned both my discs of part 1 & 2 to Netflix and had no problem whatsoever. And though I don't have blu-ray, (you lucky dog), the presentation was spectacular. Sounds like a problem with the discs(?) Call Netflix (1-888-638-3549) and tell them. Ask for IMMEDIATE replacements before you even send yours back. They should do this as I've NEVER had a bad Netflix experience that couldn't be remedied by their expert and customer-friendly representatives. Good luck!

Hey Montana Dave Thanks so much for your suggestions and the time you took to make them! I did install a firmware update (which coincidentally was released the same month I bought my Oppo BRD player), and that took care of the problem. Peeking at RED CLIFF, it looks incredible! I've never had a bad NF experience either, and think it's great that they will ship you a replacement before you return your defective/damaged copy. I live in Colorful (and currently quite windswept) Colorado, by the way ... Thanks again!
