I've got it, but it's not in my top 10 favorite Horners. In this case, I like the movie a lot more than the score.
In grouping RED HEAT with the similar-sounding scores such as COMMANDO, 48 HOURS and GORKY PARK, this ranks higher than for me than COMMANDO and 48 HOURS and below GORKY PARK. The latter has the gorgeous love theme to provide contrast which is why it comes out on top, but I find RED HEAT more listenable and developed than COMMANDO and 48 HOURS.
I had this on cassette back in the day. Initially I was like “what the hell?” But over time have gained a real appreciation of this score. Not sure how much is unreleased but it def deserves a complete treatment. Hopefully soon... that lengthy bus station cue is just awesome. Horner was so unique in the synths he used.
Isn't the Virgin release long enough, 44 minutes is healthy, I like this score as it highlights Horner's early work, Bus Station is a relentless cue full of action, Hospital Chase also runs in dramatic vein. I'd double dip if there's 20-30 minutes hiding somewhere.
