I just read that Bear Family Records (Germany) will release a box (lp format) titled "John Wayne's West". This box will include 1 Book (featuring poster artwork for John Wayne films), 1 DVD (with trailers to John Wayne films) and 10 audio CDs featuring music from John Wayne films. The complete details including track listings can be found here:
I would like to draw your attention to CD 5 which features "The Cowboys" by John Williams. According to the track listing this CD features a lot more music than the Varese CD from 1994 and even more music than the bootleg LP from end of the 70s. Does anyone have more details about this project e.g. what quality will the tracks have (mono or stereo)?

Sounds like they're going to have to be ready for a lot of poop headed their way from the people who ordered for THE COWBOYS.
COW POOP.
Reminds me of that Bear Poop and Rabbit joke:
A bear and a rabbit are taking a shit in the woods, the bear turns to the rabbit and says, "Do you have a problem with shit sticking to your fur?" The rabbit says no and the bear whipes his ass with the rabbit. -Gilbert Gottfried
Will be interesting to see how this is handled by The Bear Family.
I hope any future release includes the lovely version of Vivaldi that Williams takes up from the kid playing the guitar. Always loved that piece. This score is one of my favourite Williams scores too.
I am more than content with my Varese score from The Cowboys. I couldn't care less for an extended edition either. I often seem to play this score, followed by Jerry Goldsmith's Bad Girls. Two superb western scores for my money.
This John Wayne box set seems to be causing quite a stir, and although it sounds interesting, I am prepared to wait for future individual releases of some of the westerns mentioned in the set. There was a Bear Brothers four CD set of songs from westerns recently mentioned on another thread, which did appeal though. It was called From The Alamo to El Dorado if memory serves. Might be persuaded to look into the possibility of buying that set, if finances allow.
What are the sources for True Grit and Rooster Cogburn and Mclintlock? That's the real question in my mind. THe re-recordings or something else? Randy Derchan
And what about Rio Bravo, which I remember reading was lost?

I'm sure these must be from the LPs.
None of these three films is beyond the 50-year date that would constitute "public domain" in Europe, so it's hard to see how they can be issued even under that law. And there was no LP for "Rooster Cogburn."
As I had already written in the other thread: don't expect miracles!
It is my assumption that the previously available material (LPs, former CD issues) has been properly licensed.
Some of the titles you mention didn't have commercial releases thus far. Coincidentally, these are exactly the titles which are represented on the set by only the main and end titles (and an occasional additional track). I guess it's not that difficult to figure out where the tracks come from...
Well, this could mean that THE COWBOYS is coming from an US-Label pretty soon.
Maybe LaLa - I think they said in one of the other threads that someone is looking on the Box-release.
Considering FSM seems to have special access to the Warner Bros. catalogue, I think we'll probably see an expanded THE COWBOYS release coming from them in the future.
