I caught a test screening of Disney's 2D animation picture THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG the other night...

Despite a couple story problems with the the first reel (character set-up and motivation, etc), the movie was really good! There are probably 8 or 9 songs in the movie, and Randy really covered a lot of different styles of New Orleans music... Dixieland, Zyedeco, piano jazz, etc...

There were a lot of great source pieces that were clearly written by Randy too... mainly when characters on screen had to "play" something. The score itself was mostly temporary, but all the songs were in, having been recorded much earlier for animation purposes.

Here's what I can remember...

1) Opening Song - same as what's in the trailer (and the one that Randy has performed live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY_q2KuqAso), but performed by the woman who voices Tiana instead of Dr. John. It's just the first few lines, then the movie starts.

2) Opening Song (again) - the full version, now performed by Dr. John. Big, big band with lots of swank.

3) "Almost There" - Tiana's "I Want..." song. Very broadway-esque. Not my normal cup of tea, but I liked it.

4) "I Got Friends On The Other Side" - excellent bad-guy tune performed by David Keith. Reminded me a little of Oogie Boogie's song from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I was surprised by how dark and intense it was. Great lyrics here.

6) "Almost There" (reprise) - brief.

5) "When I'm Human..." - a song for a g**d**n alligator! (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/22700341/bad_mood_rising) Lot of fun with really clever lyrics. Reminded me a bit of "The Bare Necessities," not because of its style, really, but more because of its use in the movie.

6) A song for Louie, the cajun lightening bug in the trailer - zydeco style.

7) Another song for Louie, this time more of a romantic ode to the stars.

8) "Dig A Little Deeper" - sung by the voodoo lady. Again, excellent lyrics.

9) The Opening song gets a reprisal at the end as well.

I know I'm leaving 1 or 2 out here, particularly in the last part of the flick half. I seem to remember the "Friends On The Other Side" tune coming back ones or twice. Anyway, it's Randy writing in a big, broadway style, but the songs are still very character-based with a ton of personality. I'm really looking forward to hearing them all again. I'm a bit sad that that's still 6 or 7 months off!
