Though it doesn't count as a phrase that should go away, there's the case of "Chrysler Imperial" when actually '55 to '75 they were a separate marque as "Imperial".

Well, it's not as if the moniker "Chrysler Imperial" came out of the blue. Before 1955, Chrysler advertised it as the Chrysler Imperial, as this 1950 ad shows.

And after 1975, it was advertised as the Chrysler Imperial, as this 1989 ad shows,.

And even during the 1955-75 period, the ads weren't exactly hiding the Chrysler connection, as this 1968 ad describes the Imperial as the "finest automobile built by Chrysler Corporation."

So maybe we can be cut a little slack for calling it the Chrysler Imperial.

That second advertisement is for the ‘90-93 Chrysler Imperial, which I consider to be a poor relation to the Imperial marque, and NOT in the same league as the ‘55-75 or ‘81-83 models, and is nothing more than a dressed up Chrysler New Yorker sedan.
