Anyway, I'm always amused by the fact that THE LAST EMPEROR was also my last LP!

And it was the first CD I ever bought!

Interesting trivia, Bernardo Bertolucci first approached Georges Delerue to score the picture.

Too bad, Delerue was busy with his seven other assignments that year.

I'm reviving this thread.
I was listening to this amazing soundtrack yesterday and was thinking, there must be a bunch of unreleased material on this score.
I wish some label was interested in digging this up and offer a prestigious, remastered and expanded edition to this gem?

Or Milan Records? Since they've been releasing a lot of Ryuichi Sakamoto's work these last years

That would be lovely.
One of my first soundtracks I had and I still enjoy it.
I might also recommend Little Buddha also by Sakamoto.

I have always wondered why Zimmer was chosen to produce the score, before he had his own breakthrough as a film composer. He was only 30 when he worked on this. And he never worked with Bertolucci again. Any ideas?

Sakamoto's music for De Palma's Snake Eyes was awesome!

YES
