RUMOR CONTROL: Percepto isn't folding. Just because FIVE CDs are being put on moritorium doesn't mean the company is collapsing!! There are still a dozen other releases, you know......

INVASION OF THE SAUCER MEN / IT CONQUERED THE WORLD seems to have sold out without any fanfare. Or it was discontinued for some reason. The site says both.

Well, the site said it was now due in 2 to 3 weeks and that was about a month or more ago.

If it got held up in more pressing problems, or issues, we may never get it at all and Percepto might feel a bite in their wallet that might drive then Supercollector.

I ordered a load of titles from Percepto, and another order from Buysoudtrax.com.

Both orders seemed to be coming from yahoo.com, and both said in 7/10 days.

That was 6 weeks ago....

I ordered VIC MIZZY SUITES AND THEMES a few days before it went out of print directly from Percepto and it arrived within a week.

I'm wondering if it's worth ordering TOASTER until there's some defiite word about it shipping.

THE RELUCTANT ASTRONAUT is the one I really want to get my hands on...

Update:

They now say TBLT is due in December.

Someone in the guestbook said "...it's a shame they are going under..."

If you also read the rest of the "update" the other two CDs (ASTRONAUT & KILLER KLOWNS) are coming out later this fall. There's not much FALL left to procrastinate with.

The Toaster exists. I have it. I got an advance copy two weeks ago, complete with booklet. It's a nice package, and the booklet is what you've come to expect from Percepto. The sound is good and there's lots of music. I rather liked the Van Dyke Parks songs, but I must say I didn't love Mr. Newman's score.

I have yet to go WOW for anything by David Newman. The other Newmans have wowed me on various occasions, but DAVID has yet to live up to his family legacy. Not saying his music is bad, just not incredible.

Perhaps when he gets a non-comedic, A-list films to compose for....

As a die-hard David Newman fan, allow me to calmly suggest this list of exceptional scores:

HOFFA
THE PHANTOM
ICE AGE
ANASTASIA (his one and only Oscar-nominated score)
THE WAR OF THE ROSES
either BILL & TED movie (both scores are great)
THE SANDLOT
JINGLE ALL THE WAY (the score is one of his best, though, conversely, the film is one of the worst he's ever worked on)
MATILDA
THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN
UNDERCOVER BLUES

What do you mean "DAVID has yet to live up to his family legacy" ?
Could you explain that ?
Music for comedies can be very good music.

Over the past 20 years Newman certainly has composed more "incredible" and amazingly inventive scores (often to less than amazing films) than many other composers.
Unfortunately most of his music hasn`t been released.

Within the Hollywood filmmusic community David Newman is (rightfully) concidered to be one of the best composers working today, in terms of craft and atristry.
BTW, also the late Jerry Goldsmith thought of
David Newman as one of the most talented modern filmcomposers.

In addition to the excellent Newman scores mentioned by SBD, I also recommend the following terrific music by David Newman :

- 102 Dalmatians (one of my all time favorites)
- Paradise (lovely americana)
- My Father The Hero (the best "vacation score" ever. IMO)
- Mighty Ducks
- Other People`s Money
- The Freshman
- 1001 Nights

I like how I've raised a couple of eyebrows so far. What I mean by WOW is a score that I would actively listen to repeatedly. I own well over ten CDs by DAVID NEWMAN from the previous lists including (in some cases he has been allowed only one cue on the album):

ICE AGE
MR. DESTINY
I LOVE TROUBLE
BOWFINGER
ROVER DANGERFIELD
THE MARRYING MAN
HEATHERS
HOFFA
CRITTERS
JINGLE ALL THE WAY
THE CAT IN THE HAT
THE PHANTOM
OPERATION DUMBO DROP
ANASTASIA
SCOOBY-DOO
THE FLINTSTONES
GALAXY QUEST (his best yet)

and after all this I can still say I haven't been WOWED. His work and output is good, but after the recent issues of his father's (ALFRED NEWMAN) classic scores to...

WILSON (spectacular, a perfect 10)
THE BLUE BIRD (excellent)
THE CAPTAIN FROM CASTILE (outstanding)
THE SONG OF BERNADETTE (beautiful)
THE ROBE (fantastic)

David falls short in comparison

I've even enjoyed RANDY's and especially THOMAS NEWMAN's scores far more than David's. My comments do not reflect his prowess as a composer, but how much I like the music he's created. So I eagerly await a score from David Newman that will knock my socks off, because until those CDs of ALFRED NEWMAN's scores (mentioned above) were finally released and brought to my ears, I had the same perception of him (A. Newman) too.

The proof is in the listening. wink

I eagerly await BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER, as I love the film and I'm a fan of David Newman. IMO David Newman has yet to really deliver a fantastic score and I BELIEVE he can do it!
