STAR WARS DAY---to celebrate Star Wars Day, May 4, the 25th anniversary of STAR WARS: EPISODE I--THE PHANTOM MENACE, all nine STAR WARS movies will return to theaters and will be shown in chronological order. The marathon also includes a sneak peek of THE ACOLYTE tv series and a limited edition poster. Ticket sales begin on Friday, March 22.
Also, Lucasfilm, Disney Consumer Products and TruMoo are releasing Blue Milk which Luke Skywalker drank in the original 1977 movie, "TruMoo Blue Milk is 1% low-fat milk and features natural vanilla flavor and blue color for a truly galactic delicious experience your family will enjoy." Store sales begin on April 17.

BARBIE---Sharon Stone commented on her plans for a Barbie movie in the 1990s, "I went to the studio to try and make Barbie in the 1990s with a producer, a friend of mine, and I had the then-CEO of Mattel on my side. We got thrown out of the studio. They were like, ‘Why would you take this American icon and try to destroy it? What is wrong with you?’ I got a lecture and an escort to the door.“
Stone added, “We had it so the opening scene would be Barbie pulling up to Mattel in her Barbie car and secret service come out and their feet are as big as the car. They escort her into Mattel and everybody falls aside because she’s the most important member of Mattel. All the big people are chasing her around and kissing her ass because she’s the queen of Mattel and it’s about the power of being Barbie and what Barbie could do in the world because she’s so powerful. But they didn’t think Barbie should be powerful.“

SUPERHERO MOVIES---Gwyneth Paltrow commented on superhero movies, "I think if I look at the industry as a whole, this sort of big push into superhero movies, I mean, you can only make so many good ones that feel truly original. And yet they're still always trying to reach as many people as possible, which sometimes hinders quality or specificity or real point of view...I do think that you get more diversity of art when there's less at stake and people can sort of express their true voice and make a film the way they wanna make it, and then I think those are generally the more resonant ones."

BOSCH---Maggie Q will star and Titus Welliver will appear in Amazon Prime's untitled BOSCH spinoff whose synopsis says, “It follows Detective Renée Ballard (Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold-case unit — a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest caseload in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch (Welliver), to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.”

THE SPIDER WITHIN: A SPIDER-VERSE STORY---Sony Pictures Animation short film will premiere on Sony Pictures Animation"s YouTube channel on March 27.

NBC---NBC renewed CHICAGO MED, CHICAGO FIRE, CHICAGO P.D., LAW & ORDER and LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT.

PEAKY BLINDERS---creator Steven Knight confirmed Cillian Murphy is returning for the movie sequel to the BBC tv series, “He definitely is returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth [England].”

THE BOONDOCK SAINTS---Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery are returning for a relaunch of the movie franchise.

TRIVIA---in ALIENS, Carrie Henn played Newt Jorden and Carrie's real brother, Christopher Henn, played Newt's brother, Tommy Jorden. Christopher Henn's scenes were deleted in the theatrical version, but his scenes were restored in later versions.

Newt Jorden (Carrie Henn), Tommy Jorden (Christopher Henn) and their father, Russ Jorden (Jay Benedict).

Phantom Menace?!? What? What are the names of the other ones? There are nine Star Wars films? I remember the one from 1977 and the one from 1980. After those, there was nothing, right?

I would love seeing 4 & 5 on the big screen again but not the crappy Special Editions.
I have Harmy's Despecialized Editions and can watch them on my big screen TV at home.
If only Disney/Lucas gave the fans what they wanted.

Star Wars? Is this still a thing?

The last time I attended a screening was in 1983 - Return of the Jedi. Once I saw those teddybears, I was pretty much done. Never looked back.

There's an entire generation who know only the Special Editions of the original trilogy.

Meh, I also have the Despecialized as well as direct from 35mm prints (4k77, a "grindhouse" verision of Jedi and a beath to shit 35mm of Empire - all glorious), so I don't care if Disney releases them or not anymore.

However, I would probably see ESB in theaters since it's the least altered and most of those changes actually work.

All these tinkerings amount to cultural vandalism, no more no less.

Star Wars? Is this still a thing?

Given the age I was at the time of the original films, I'll always be grateful to Lucas, Williams, and Spielberg for the films they made and contributed to circa 1977-1984. Their creations made an otherwise difficult childhood bearable. When the original SW trilogy ended, I moved on to other types of films and music, but I will always appreciate their work for it having led me to explore those other films and music.

I must have mistook this for the "How to start a nerd war" thread.

Interesting, I have the exact opposite opinion. I could watch the Special Editions of 4&6 but I think 5 is horribly chopped up and unwatchable.
