THE MANDALORIAN---a rumor says Carl Weathers will co-star in the STAR WARS tv series.

STAR WARS---Simon Pegg, a frequent critic of the George Lucas prequel movies, said about the recent STAR WARS movies, "I must admit, watching the last STAR WARS film [THE LAST JEDI], the overriding feeling I got when I came out was, 'I miss George Lucas.' For all the complaining that I'd done about him in the prequels, there was something amazing about his imagination. I do feel like his voice is missing from the current ones."
Pegg appeared in THE FORCE AWAKENS as Unkar Plott and is good friends with JJ Abrams.

WESTWORLD---a source claims HBO is seeking Antonio Banderas to join the cast as a villain for Season 3. He would join Aaron Paul as new co-stars.

GAME OF THRONES---HBO announced Season 8 will premiere in April, 2019, but did not give a specific date.

GODZILLA VS. KONG---synopsis released for the sequel, “In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.”

FRACTURE---synopsis released for the Netflix movie starring Sam Worthington, “Driving cross-country, Ray (Worthington) and his wife and daughter stop at a highway rest area where his daughter falls and breaks her arm. After a frantic rush to the hospital and a clash with the check-in nurse, Ray is finally able to get her to a doctor. While the wife and daughter go downstairs for an MRI, Ray, exhausted, passes out in a chair in the lobby. Upon waking up, they have no record or knowledge of Ray’s family ever being checked in.”

THE WALKING DEAD---the first episode after the departure of Rick Grimes lost a modest 1% of the audience from Rick Grimes' last episode.

HUMAN CAPITAL---Liev Schreiber and Marisa Tomei will star in the movie based on the novel.

GARFIELD---Mark Dindal (CHICKEN LITTLE) will direct the animated movie based on the comic strip cat.

ALF---the revival of the sci fi sitcom was cancelled due to a lack of interest by the networks.

DAVID SPADE---untitled HBO comedy series starring David Spade as a semi-famous 1990s grunge musician who is now working as a waiter and befriends a troubled 20-something actress.

TRIVIA---in THE GREAT ESCAPE, Steve McQueen's character, Virgil Hilts, was based on several POWs. Director John Sturges said Hilts was primarily based on Maj. Gen. David Jones, who was a pilot in the famous Doolittle Raid, the US bombing raid on Tokyo and other cities four months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

In THE GREAT ESCAPE, Maj. Gen. David Jones (mustache), who was a pilot in the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, was the main inspiration for Steve McQueen's character, Virgil Hilts. Jones was shot down over North Africa and became a POW at Stalag Luft III. He was a member of the camp's "escape committee" and was the team leader for digging the tunnel code-named "Harry"

In the motorcycle pursuit scene, one of the German motorcyclists pursuing McQueen was played by McQueen himself, so McQueen was pursuing himself.

In the barbed wire scene, the barbed wire was actually bits of rubber bands twisted together by the cast and crew during their spare time.

Well, my interest level just jumped up a notch or two - from zero. wink

I always wondered how they did that - it sure was convincing.

Thanks, Dragon53!

He's not wrong but the irony that this is coming from the guy who also penned a recent NuTrek film is not lost on me.

I don't think that Steve McQueen's character is based on anyone, it's pure Hollywood. Bad history, but a great movie.

Trek Beyond was better than Into Darkness, but not as good as Trek 2009. But Trek Beyond was better than both of the first two Star Wars prequels, Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, but maybe not better than Revenge of the Sith. And George has always been a better conceptualist than writer or director. Given unlimited power and money, the end result of George in charge usually a mixture of impressive and a giant mess that is alternatively exciting and dull as dirt.

If I ignore the fact Into Darkness was a lame remake of WOK it's my favorite Nu-Trek film but that's not saying much. There are two good Star Wars films.

I agree with that, it is an exciting film, mostly pretty good, other than that preposterously stretched out final action bit.
But as for a Trek film, not that great.

Let me guess, your picks for Star Wars good films is Star Wars 1977 and Empire Strikes Back?

Strangely enough, I felt the same way, even though I enjoyed The Last Jedi. As weird and boring as the prequels were to me, they were still Star Wars. Even if they were more ABOUT "Star Wars" than just being fun movies.

As for the Bed Robot Trek's, ST: Beyond was my favorite of the three. It finally felt more like the STar Trek I always loved combined with the ADHD action film making styles of today. There was a decent story in there and Kirk was finally written and portrayed accurately. If there are to be no more of them, this was a good place to stop.
