I won't be able to partake until tonight. You "muthas" better not buy out all the in stock titles until I get a chance to place my order.

Ugh! It figures. Just order ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE two weeks ago at full price. :/

There are a few that I *might* pick up. Not sure yet.

Get it. The whole score is perhaps only professional/serviceable (not saying it's bad, just not amazing). But the main title IS amazing -- one of Jerry's greatest compositions...ever.

Decided, for $20, it was worth it to grab THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS. Sure, the music is definitely dated and a product of its time--but, for me, that time was the tail end of my college life so there's a heavy dose of nostalgia there. smile

"Dated" is not a word I'd use to describe the score to The Matrix Revolutions, but to each their own.

It's most certainly "dated". The sound is primarily "trance" which was popular in the 90's and early 2000's. Doesn't make it bad music though. cool

Just caught this sale and ordered a shitload of CDs. Looking forward to quite a few, such as Sky Captain and Sum of All Fears. I haven't seen Sky Captain so I'll need to remedy that before having a listen to the score. Really in the dark with that one. And Sum of All Fears? Well, it is Jerry Goldsmith. I believe one poster used the word serviceable or professional to describe the music, but I suppose for the composer that is still better than good scores by others.

Yep! Thank you! That's what I had meant. The synths in Arnold's DIE ANOTHER DAY score is infused with similar styles--because that was the trend back then (which THE MATRIX TRILOGY had a huge hand in creating with regards to that style in films). But again, it doesn't make it bad. If it was, I wouldn't have ordered it! LOL

Sometimes, dated music is just as good as--or even better than--whatever the current trends are. The scores from Goldsmith's synth-heavy mid-80s period are noticeably a product of their time, but they are among some of my absolute favorites! Particular FIRST BLOOD PART II and EXPLORERS.

First of all, there is no 'trance' in MATRIX REVOLUTIONS. At most, it's psytrance, but a better description yet is Goa, which is a far darker, tribal variant of the far more commercial trance sound. Second of all, the Juno Reactor elements you're referring to are only one part of the score, which is otherwise straight-up Don Davis 'clusters' (nothing dated about it; quite the contrary). Thirdly, psytrance and goa are not 'dated'. It still enjoys great popularity in sub cultures (it was never a mainstream genre to begin with).

I've always been a huge fan of Juno Reactor and goa, which is why I prefer this score even over the first MATRIX, which was far lighter on these elements.

I don't know what Psytrance or Goa are. Sounds like Godzilla villains. But in other words, trance!
And it is dated. It was a very popular sound that was infused in our music culture, and now is generally dismissed. The fact it survives in small circles is besides the point.

Perhaps tread with an OUNCE more humility if it's a territory you know little about?

Goa was never a mainstream genre, and is still popular as the subculture phenomenon it always was. Hence it is not dated. In fact, there are new forms of it. If it had been more mainstream trance (or similar genres in the rave and post-rave periods), it would have been a different matter.
