Best Original Score Carter Burwell, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” Alexandre Desplat, “The Shape of Water” Jonny Greenwood, “Phantom Thread” John Williams, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” Hans Zimmer, “Dunkirk” aside from Dunkirk it makes perfect sense Well...the fact that the Onna Joushu Naotora soundtrack didn't get a nomination makes me sympathize even more with Waxman's quitting the Academy. It's mostly a joke, and the Dunkirk nomination reinforces that imo.

Well...the fact that the Onna Joushu Naotora soundtrack didn't get a nomination makes me sympathize even more with Waxman's quitting the Academy. It's mostly a joke, and the Dunkirk nomination reinforces that imo. A foreign TV drama getting a nomination for the American Oscars... [Spock] That would be illogical! [/Spock] You said it, Christian! Never mind the fact that it was one of the elite soundtracks...perhaps of this decade. Nothing original or innovative...but I don't think that was the composer's intention. Just a spectacularly well crafted, nostalgic-smile-bringingly orchestrated, involving to listen to effort. An excellent soundtrack imo.

This nomination is, of course, for the most *effective* use of music in a movie. And hot damn, it was that.

Five of Williams' eight Star Wars scores have been nominated. Man, talk about a legacy. -

While I can't judge which is better as I have not yet heard The Post, Last Jedi's nomination is very well deserved.
